FAQ - BBC Codes
Da_Cloud:
This topic explains how the BBC - Codes work.
This guide is meant to help you understanding the working of the BBC - codes of this forum.
What is BBC
BBC stands for "Bulletin Board Code". Its basically a code to modify the layout of an text. This means you can make you're text bold, Italic or even give it a different color :D It was created to replace the use of HTML on Forums and is now the most used code on forums.
Where can I find these codes
If you're writing a post you might have noticed 3 rows with some pictures above the text field. The 3th row are smilies which are nice to express yourself, but they aren't part of the BBC - Codes. The other two rows should look like this:
These are the BBC codes that you can use. If you push a button it will automatically generate the right code for you. All you need to do is put the text between the begin and and tag of the code. How simple can it be.
Below is an explanation of each code
Button:
--- Code: ---[b][/b]
--- End code ---
Any text between these tags will look like this
Button:
--- Code: ---[i][/i]
--- End code ---
Any text between these tags will look like this
Button:
--- Code: ---[u][/u]
--- End code ---
Any text between these tags will look like this
Button:
--- Code: ---[s][/s]
--- End code ---
Any text between these tags will look like this
Button:
--- Code: ---[glow=red,2,300][/glow]
--- End code ---
Any text between these tags will get a colored box around them. You can change the color by changing "red" into the color you want
Button:
--- Code: ---[move][/move]
--- End code ---
The text you've put between these tags will move horizontal along the screen
Button:
--- Code: ---[pre][/pre]
--- End code ---
??? If anybody knows what happens with this code let me know ???
Button:
--- Code: ---[left][/left]
--- End code ---
Any text between these tags will be aligned left
You can also align images with this tag
Button:
--- Code: ---[center][/center]
--- End code ---
Any text between these tags will be centered
You can also align images with this tag
Button:
--- Code: ---[right][/right]
--- End code ---

You can also align images with this tag
Button:
--- Code: ---[hr]
--- End code ---
With this tag you will ad a horizontal line like this one
Button:
--- Code: ---[size=10pt][/size]
--- End code ---
With this tag you can chance the size of the font. The bigger the number the bigger the texts
A size of 6pt: Will have this format
A size of 10pt: Will have this format
A size of 14pt: Will have this format
Button:
--- Code: ---[font=Verdana][/font]
--- End code ---
With this tage you can change the font of your text. Some examples:
Verdana, Times, Courier
Button:
--- Code: ---[color=red][/color]
--- End code ---
Select the color you want and put the text between the tags.
Button:
--- Code: ---[img]http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn105/viibram/6.jpg[/img]
--- End code ---
I shall try to explain this. Put the link of the image (yes it already need to be on the internet) between the tags. If you put in the example above you will see this image: (Wich is my sig
If you want to upload a sig from your computer I suggest you do that on http://photobucket.com/. This is a free site where you can upload images from your computer. They will host it for you and give you the link that you'll need to post it here.
Button:
--- Code: ---[url="complete URL so with the http://"][/url]
--- End code ---
There are two ways to use this.
First put the whole link between the tags like "url]http://www.fftogether.com/forum/index.php[/url" If you do so the forum will do the rest.
The second way is a bit more complex but allows you to name the link yourself. Now you'll have to put the link like this "url=http://www.fftogether.com/forum/index.php] Now you can put your own name of the link here [/url"
Buttons:
--- Code: ---[table][/table][tr][/tr][td][/td]
--- End code ---
This is a complex code and requires some knowledge of the html language. It allows you to create a table layout to perfectly line out your text. If you want to know how it works look here at http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_tables.asp. This is a on line manual of the tables tags work in html. If you'll understand this you see that these tags work in the same way.
Button:
--- Code: ---[sup][/sup]
--- End code ---
Normal text text between the tags
Button:
--- Code: ---[sub][/sub]
--- End code ---
Normal text text between the tags
Button:
--- Code: ---[ code ][ /code ]
--- End code ---
The code button will create a quote in which you can still see the code. This only comes in handy if you want to explain how the codes work
Button:
--- Code: ---[quote][/quote]
--- End code ---
If you use the quote tags you can put a quote of somebody else in your post without confusing people.
--- Quote --- A quote will look like this
--- End quote ---
Button:
--- Code: ---[spoiler][/spoiler]
--- End code ---
This is the spoiler tag. Every spoiler must be putted between these tags.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)This is a spoiler, that only appears when you've clicked on the button
Button:
--- Code: ---[list][li]first thing[/li]
[li]second thing[/li][/list]
--- End code ---
To create a perfect list use the list tags. The example above will give this resold;
* first thing
* second thing
curly haired boy:
quite useful, and it'll answer many questions that folks have. :)
Max Power:
I must say, the buttons to activate each little gizmo are superb
I couldn't even think of how annoying it would be to decorate my posts by typing all of those codes myself
Thankyou!
Zodiac Killer 99:
I'm not sure if anyone's having the same problem but no matter what i try i can not get the quote button to work. I can't even get quotes when i go to the message and press insert quote. This has happened on 2 computers now so i'm just wondering if i'm doing something wrong somehow.
Da_Cloud:
This is indeed a problem as this doesn't seem to work properly.
But if you have more questions about this post them here
