Title: FFTogethers summer marathon 2012
Post by: Da_Cloud on January 07, 2012, 05:00:56 PM
A certain person suggested to make a start with this topic to start polling the interest of people. Its still a good half year away, but just like the past 3 years we'll be going for another round this year as well. Can't remember how long we've been playing last year, but I believe we surpassed our first marathon time which lasted for appropriately 4 and a half day ;D

Right now its still to far away to give a date already, but feel free to make a note if your interested to help out with this years marathon. Don't be shy to ask friends or other streamers you know as well, because this site is called FFTogether with a reason. The more people we have the more fun it will be and who knows we might even break the 7 day record at one point in time ;D

Like last year I'll try to gather as many people as I can together. Last year me and my friends managed to stream non stop for almost 3 days and it has become some sort of a sport to try and increase that number every year. I've also heard Matt will be there as well, so its guaranteed already a big party this year :P

Current list of players:
Almost certain to play                People that are interested to help, but who aren't sure they can
Da_Cloud & friends
xShadowBlitzx & jake1456
Yuichan
ChaosBeelzemon
YiazmatSlayer
Someddrnoob
stuart
Shadow Gilgamesh

List of Requested Games
Should you want to help streaming, but you've got know idea what? Maybe this list can help out:

Well you know i'll be there, most likely jake as well and i may be able to stream for 2 different days myself. Now of course i wouldn't want it to be, Me>Jake>Me gamewise in that order as that would physically kill me so hopefully more people show up to help out. I'll be sure to link fury this so he can get on this. Gotta hope more people can stream as i would love to break the 1 week milestone.

The best way to stream multiple days is when you have 4 or more people, as you can split the night in 2 halves and have each couple stream one half and sleep the other half. If done smart you can get a good 4/5 hours of sleep each night and the streamer doesn't have to stay up alone which really helps to stay awake ;D

Also if anybody has a game he want to see streamed don't hesitate to post your requests as well. Not saying we will be able to stream them, but we can always try ;)

Well if jake is up for it then me and him could probably do subspace emmisary on brawl for a game, that should take up a fair chunk of time.

What about the IZJS Trial Mode? Is anyone able to stream that?

If i practice it then i may be able to but somebody else would probably be more suited. :D

If I have a computer with a good enough webcam, plus my xbox back, and enough free time away from work, I'll stream something. That's three very hazy and large if's there.

As for the getting sleep thing, that's simple. If two of the US members stream during UK night, and vice versa, that would be easy. A week sounds achievable enough, if there's enough of us to stream.

i still wonder how his laptop breaks our internet

My upload speed is doubled, so I'll test it out next month when I have time. Also got a new PC. Let's hope I can stream sound without any extra cables and stuff.

I won't do any large sessions, though (maybe 6 hours max) and I won't do any sessions at all if I fail my exams and have to study for the ones in September. ::)

ok from what it looks like, as of this point we have:
Bram & Sixty,
Bltzy & Jake,
Myself,

Possible:
ChaosBeelzemon
YiazmatSlayer
Someddrnoob
stuart
Shadow Gilgamesh

That looks really well thus far. We might be able to break a week from the looks of it, as i will easily able to go ahead and do 14-16hours again. Luckily, August is break tiem  8)

Saw a speedrun of one of them yesterday, so that's why I remembered them. But yea if I can get my brother to join I'll definitely consider playing both of them together, making the second game a linked game so that we can even do the super boss ;D

BTW updated the first post with the list of requested games. Not saying those are going to be the games we'll have to play though ;)

Such a thing would be mega awesome, though my parents would never allow it in there house. So if we want to do such a thing it will have to be in a remote location like a camping house, sadly things like those cost quite a lot to rent :-\

you have any idea how much it costs? i would think of doing it for us three, but i dont think we would have internet connection, or the price, where as sad i have no idea how much i have to pay for a week if we 3, maybe 4 or 5 depending on how many we can get, to share the costs.
Title: Re: FFTogethers summer marathon 2012

Internet connection would be the biggest issue yea. As we need to confirm its stable, strengths isn't really that much of an issue since the average connection in the Netherlands is more than enough.

Might take a look at it, but I've got a hard head that it will really work. Especially since it will fall in the summer which is already a costly period.

I would love that but I'll be home alone with my dog and I'm the only way for Jake to stream so that would be a no go for me.

Regarding when we get a schedule set-up, i'd like to request to be able to finish off the marathon with FFVI. It's not that i can't do it fast enough it's just that i'd like to be more comfortable playing it. Not to mention it would be cool to end of the marathon like i did with the 2nd. :D

ok since matt didnt say it yet, i will:

Me and him discussed the pokemon thingie. As it states now, me and him can do the first 3 generations. He would do 1st and i would do 2nd and 3rd gen. But i/we will prolly put a section in between, especially when i will do 2nd and 3rd gen, dont really want to do both after each other.

i personally must use emulators, as i dont have a capture card, tho i ahve experience doing so, as i already used one last year with Final Fantasy V.
Already have my teams laid out, so it will go fairly well, as i am currently doing testruns.

Title: Re: FFTogethers summer marathon 2012
Post by: Da_Cloud on January 13, 2012, 11:04:51 AM
Well my first thought was an KHII race. It would roughly take us (non professional speed runners) 6~7 hours to race and I guess most of us know our way through the game good enough to bash trough it without facing any "serious problems".

do you want all speedruns or more casual play in the marathon?
I leave that decision up to the player himself. If they want to do a casual run its fine by me, if they think its more fun to show off during a speed-run its fine as well. Just look at my run last year. I've done the first Golden Sun game as a speedrun, whereas the rest of the games where more casual of the kind. We did speed up the games by skipping most of the conversations, but that was all.

Post by: Da_Cloud on January 13, 2012, 01:38:13 PM
how many people actually finished?
Golden Sun I (Da_Cloud & Crew) -> Finished
Golden Sun II (Da_Cloud & Crew) -> Finished
Final Fantsy IX (Da_Cloud & Crew) -> We needed to add a break in between (Tactics Advance), but we did finish the game
Final Fantasy VI (xShadowBlitzx) -> Didn't finish
Final Fantasy V (Yuichan) -> Didn't finish
Kingdom Hearts II (Jake1456) -> Didn't finish
Kingdom Hearts (FuryRising) -> Finsihed

So we did around 50/50 last year

You know I'll be there (For those who don't know me, I'm the guy who did Kingdom Hearts Final Mix). Sorry for not being on the forum more, I have a hard time posting alot :( But yeah, xshadowblitzx suggested that we start things off with a Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix Critical Mode race. I'd be down for that. The fail would be very funny.

I was actually more thinking in the way of a race that can actually be finished. Like doing the game on normal/proud mode. The fact that you'll have to outsmart the other person by being faster would already give each battle an extra dimension on its own.

Besides I've already seen Matt fail on a KHII Critical mode run. And I doubt Matt had as fun during that time as Chaos and me did ::)

True, but I reckon its more fun if we'll keep it a serious race.

Heck you know what why don't add a little boost to it. A three person race (you, fury and me) on Kingdom Hearts II Normal mode and the losers have to donate a minimum of $10 towards the charity 8)

I'm up for that, especially as its only roxas I have trouble with. :D

I'll mention this to fury later, shall we also not practice.. that should make it interesting as everything is down to pure skill and memory then. That's what we was going to do for critical mode.

Nothing wrong with my memory so I doubt that's going to be an issue.

Also the no practice part would only work for me if we're doing the normal edition of Kingdom Hearts II. If we are going to the final mix version I would require some training against Roxas, mainly because I've never got that far on the Final Mix version ::)

I'd say normal kh2, easier and quicker to get set up.

Just for the record I've listed the rules for our little KH race. They are plain and simple, but to make it a fair race we better list them beforehand :D

- It will be a race on Kingdom Hearts II (normal edition) on Normal mode, with no training/practice before hand.
- All in-game tricks, glitches and or bugs may be used to speed up the game.
- The game will start from the first cut scene and will last till the final form of Xemnas is destroyed.
- We'll put in a time cap of 8 hours, if we don't finish before that we've all lost  (fasted time for KHII single segment on beginner mode is sub 5 hours, so 8 should be enough for us)
- Only the 3 of us are allowed to play the game, so no other people may not take over the controller.
- The losers will have to donate a minimum of $10 towards the charity.

Now lets hope Demyx has some mercy on me. Can already see me loosing the fight in the last stage duo to some annoying water-forms ::)

Title: Re: FFTogethers summer marathon 2012
Post by: Da_Cloud on January 19, 2012, 12:27:06 PM
I can usually handel xigbar. Xaldin on the other hand used to be quite some trouble, but at least I've got mickey in that fight :D

But yea Demyx is going to give me nightmares I guess. Not to forget the 4 battles after Demyx can become quite a problem as well, one wrong move there and you'll have to redo Demyx as well :o :o

And I guess getting Anti-form would be killing as well.

Its a speedrun which means beating enemies as quick as possible, so having an additional keyblade sure helps out :P

BTW have you already spoken with FuryRising about the new version of the KH run?

xaldin is quite fast without two keyblades just keep using jump against

since you are doing a race of KH2 would it be ok for me to do ocarina of time or sonic adventure 2 battle

i suppose you meant wouldn't?

Anyway, i still cant figure out the teams for my 2nd gen run. I am practicing with a decent 3rd gen team now, but cant quite figure out a 2nd gen group:
I worked on 3 teams, 1 from my imaginaton, 2 to represent Blue(Manga) and 3 to represent Crystal(Manga):
1:  Meganium Magmar Tauros Crobat Ampharos Tentacruel
2:  Wigglytuff ,Feraligatr(originally Blastoise), Fearow(originally ditto...lol), Clefable(i know i get it late, but challenging runs are fun :D), Nidoqueen, Granbull
3:  meganium, xatu, Lapras(originally Hitmonchan, but hitmonchan is SO WEAK in gen2), cubone, parasect, arcanine

i am open for a challenge to work on and complete, especially with one of the ladder 2 teams. i can fall back on the 1st team always if i realize it wont work in terms of time.

Estimated Time Frame: Friday July 20th, 2012 - Friday July 27th, 2012 6PM Central Time

If we do it in august roughly the same as last year I'd say we are clear.

That's a shame, lets hope you can still find a frame to stream something.

Also to update, I've asked my little brother and he wouldn't mind helping me stream Zelda: Oracle of Seasons & Oracle of Time (GBA). I've estimated both games at 12 hours max each, so I still got 2 days left

My home itself is off limits (parents would never allow random strangers inside the home). But like said before with Yuichan, if we can find some place in between we can hold a party with other people as well. Haven't found anything suitable yet though :-\

The problem is that we must have a confirmed stable and strong internet connection, along with the possibly to dump our equipment, which is minimally the consols & computers required to play and stream. The later sounds easy, but I have to calculate that into the travel distance myself.

Not to forget its high season so the costs are pretty high and while I don't mind paying something I'm not planning to spend multiple months of salary into 1 week :-X

Shout all you want Sixty, but you know my personal issue with the Xdoos so that shouldn't be a surprise for you >_>

All I'm trying to prevent here is the same thing that happens with our R&C marathon 2 years ago. Back then our only player who'd ever played the first R&C backed out and we where left to fail over and over again.

Now should for any reason you not being able to participate (sick, run over by a car, funeral of who knows who, or whatever the reason my be), then who's going to take over. That's my only question here.
Me => 0 hours experience and doesn't want to play on an xdoos.
Peer => 0 hours of experience.
Ronald => ~40 hours of experience.
Rest of our group => Can't say for sure, but going down my list of known people we'll probably have to fill in 0 hours of experience.

And considering TLR isn't a game you'll just pick up in 10 minutes and play like a pro doesn't help either. With R&C we all had at least experience from the later games, so apart from the game being hard we knew exactly what we where doing.

wasn't that the marathon where matt was edge
It was in the same year, but that year we done both a summer and a winter marathon so it might have been a different one :X
Title: Re: FFTogethers summer marathon 2012
Post by: Sixty on March 05, 2012, 11:15:01 AM
The year we did R&C, was that really also the year we did a Winter Marathon? I thought it was the year before that.

Anyway, as always you do have a good point. Then i'll wait post pone TLR for next year. The problem now is which game to do? Maybe WKC, L.A. Noire or maybe pick a PSP game.

You know what, let me come back on that one.

That's what I suggested Sixty as well, instead of all the weird games he wanted to do I said I was personally thinking to do something like the three Jax & Daxter games or the 3 Sly Cooper games. Both are more fun to watch, more fun to play (when your running on little sleep) and above all easy to pick up for those who haven't played them before. Would almost say vote which of those 2 you want to see more :D

After that he comes up with a Naughty dog theme. Already said I'm not in a favor for it and considering the games already being picked it won't work out well anyway.

Yup they are. Jax & Daxter is somewhat the more grown up version of Ratchet & Clank. And Sly is the more stealthy version where its more about running through tight corners and staying out of sight than smashing your way through.

Games like those are more fast paste and the gameplay varies with the minute so your not getting stuck in a pattern ;D

My slot is roughly missing some time (at least assuming the 3 jax & daxter games take roughly 1 1/2 day to complete). If we've got enough time left I wouldn't mind filling it up with Dirge of Cerberus.

To get a list going with all players, games and estimations can everybody playing please copy the following list and add there own games to it. (Best is to quote this message and then remove the quote tags, this way you'll also get the make-up)

The estimations will be used to form the timeslots, so be sure to add some extra time in case some things go wrong. I'll try to match the estimations 1 on 1 with the actual slots, but this isn't always possible.

Player(s)                                       Game                                                                                 Estemated time to compelte
Da_Cloud, Zeikuu & FuryRising 3-tier semi-blind KHII run (rules (http://www.fftogether.com/forum/index.php?topic=3722.msg161789#msg161789)) 8 hours
Da_Cloud & Rest Jak & Daxter Triology 34 hours
Da_Cloud & Rest The legend of zelda: Ocarina of Time & Ocarina of Seasons  20 hours
Da_Cloud & Rest Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus 10 hours
Da_Cloud & Rest (Overtime) Game depends on the actual time left ~6 hours

Yuichan and Zeikuu, can you both fill in the table as much as possible. This isn't to set things in stone yet, but I want to get a rough overview of what we are going to do ;D

Also as it looks now we'll be doing it the first week of August.

Also are we going to use justinTV (twitchTV) or do some people *cough*Zeikuu*cough* prefer going back to Ustream :P
And be sure to test out if your streaming set-up still works. I know mine hasn't run since last marathon, so this point is mainly for myself I guess ;D
And any ideas for a good charity this year?

I will murder you in your sleep. The annoying thing is, the second i stopped streaming my bot connected to mIRC... i was pissed. I've yet to practice with FFVI again but i am going to be doing the VC version so it may have random freezes due to my wii cables.

The chat on twitch.tv was being glitchy as hell yesterday, i couldn't connect to my own chat at all and my bot couldn't connect either so i was streaming blind essentially. Nearly considered moving back to ustream >.>

Xsplit Broadcaster allows it to stream to both at the same time. so we could do both. if its possible for everyone with their connection off course

Okay guys, does any of you know what they are gonna stream and when they can? plz add that so we can make a schedule.

If i am correct Bram said it would be in the first week of August.

I will be streaming FFVI again and anything else i'll think about, i would've considered DoC but since bram has that i'll leave it to him. I do believe my parents go on holiday on the 5th august again so anytime in the 2 weeks following that is fine.

Well if you want to play it, I wouldn't mind switching DoC for something else. Got enough games left with which I could swap it, just picked DoC because somebody wanted to see it :P

I'll have to take another run through it again but i think i did it in 8 hours game time last time i played it and that wasn't with rushing.

Well with the FFVI i made it to airforce at 6 hours and died to airforce. This is including a screw-up at how to proceed through returners hideout (aka fastest route), bad time at the protect banon scene and a death at ultros 3rd resulting in about an extra 30 minutes more than was needed. Probably could make it to the world of ruin for 7 hours/7 hours 30 minutes if i actually sorted out who got cure 2 properly...

What Are the dates of this marathon? I've got my FF one to worry about, but if possible, I'd like to do at least one campaign for Birth by Sleep, if not the whole game. No promises yet, especially if I wind up with a job this summer, so I can't really give much of a time, but I'm just putting it out there that if I have time, I'd like to help out. Regardless, I'll be in the chat of course. XD

Wee187 which campaign where you planning to do. It might be an idea to do kinda the same as with KH2. But then with BBS all 3 campaigns at the same time.

Don't know if this is possible, and if we have enough people for it. Or maybe its an idea for in the future. Let me know what you all think

a secret game at the end of the marathon, or somewhere in between, would be fun.

Also i was arguing if i would make Gen5 Pokemon as a possible marathon segment. BUT it is way longer, lasting about 20-24 hours last time i did a walkthrough. :/

Hmmm I think I know what he means, but its not his secret game. Its mine :P

That game is pure fun though, probably lasting 5~6 hours. Über fun to play and probably nice to watch as well ;D

I'm not filling in those hours though because I don't know how long we will get. Got a few games in the back of my mind between the 6 to roughly 12 hours. All which we can use depending on the exact time we've got left.
Title: Re: FFTogethers summer marathon 2012
Post by: Sixty on June 18, 2012, 02:49:39 PM
I have been watching some of the gameplay, and off course here in Europe it has a different name :D

With commentary it was extra fun. So whatever we do to fill up time, i suggest to make it an co op game whatever it will be.
__________________________________________________________________________

Okay i tried to order a new Dazzle. Right now it's sold out. However, for KH: BBS we could do the stories after each other. Which means we have to decide which Character has to start. I suggest ending with Aqua, since the final episode is her's.

as far as streaming goes, we will be using twitch again, yes? If so, if we are using the free version of Xsplit, will it end up being fine stremaing at "only" 25fps, since thats the limit of the free version?
Title: Re: FFTogethers summer marathon 2012
Post by: Da_Cloud on June 19, 2012, 01:44:02 PM
Both me and Matt own a paid version of xsplit, so we'll be fine.

Doesn't mater which software you use though as long as it works. You'll be streaming the older version of pokemon, so 25 fps should give a good enough quality on your end. You could already count the pixels in those games to begin with ;)

It was mentioned to speedrun that game, which means skipping all the movies. And when you speedrun the game (and thus skip all movies) 3 hours is more than reasonable enough.

as far as i know its 8 hours each, the final episode is 3. with all cutscenes. which makes the game a total of 27 hours. And even if we speedrun it, you gave ronald your spot and he is currently on his first playthrough with Terra.

Terra -> Easy mode -> No cutscenes -> 4 hours.

if it ends up bieng 4 hours anyway, i dont mind. I can start 1 hour later, seeing as i am scheduled to be the first person after the Speedrun. You can just plan 4 hours and i can arrive like 30mins-1hour earlier. That should be alright.

Not even the places he's talking about right now is the KH: Birth by sleep run which is scedualed to be last.

For my 3 day slot it will probably be 3 days :D
The games which are scedualed don't accumulate to 3 full days and the rest will be filled up with smaller games and the last gap will probably become something like R&C3 multiplayer where we try to kill each other in a 4 man dogfight :P

Not really just 2 games as far as I know. The 3 tier KHII run at the beginning and KH: Birth by Sleep at the end

can't BBS count as 3 since each story is being done by a different person?

I really don't mind who I do, but I have no experience speed running Terra. However, I could always try. However if Bram is okay with it, I'd love to do Aqua instead. XD

I didn't really read the whole sentence here, so i didn't think we would do a speedrun. I thought we where gonna show the storyline in the marathon. If we are really gonna speedrun it i have to change my current tactics.

Judging from the video that justin saves after a broadcast, I should be able to stream something. I get nice video quality and bad audio quality (blame xsplit for this). I'd love to participate in that KHII race, but you'd have to think of a different punishment for me since I can't be bothered with banks.

I'll be away from the 8th of August, so I can fill in some slot before that. Nothing more than some 6-7 hours at once, though.

Well the KHII race will most likely start on the 5th. I've made a small draft for the schedule which I will post later, but as it is right now I'm planning to start late in the midday (Dutch time) so that the KHII race will end slightly after midnight.

But if you want to play anything else we'll see if we can fit it in somewhere.

KHII (perhaps Final Mix), Ico and Shadow of the Colossus would probably be my top choices. Played them before and they're pretty short, too.

Zeikuu Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus August 10th  22:00 GMT 9 hours
Sixty & Crew + wee187 3-tier KH: BBS run August 11th  07:00 GMT ??

green => player has confirmed
black => still open
red => player can't no this time.

This is the current draft. If people can confirm if these times are okay for them.

Depending on what Chaos does I can fit him in right before my slot. Meaning all times after that slot will shift up depending on the length of Chaos his slot.

Yea you'll probably have to stream it from your house. The 13th I'll have to get back to work again, so its not a bright idea to have another party the day before that ;D

I had the starting time of the first slot wrong. I've fist wrote them down in my own local time (GMT+2) and then wrote them back to GMT, must have done that twice on the first one ::)

CST is GMT -5.
So that would mean that in CST the starting time is 11:00 AM

Also Chaos if you want I can fill you in right after Matt has finished FFVI. Would come me better out as well, I rather finish late on the day than early on the day after a 3 day run. Means I can get right to sleep without messing up the normal day/night rythm ;D

I'm fine with it and only you and Yuichan will really be affected.

Sixty wouldn't have trouble with it as well and given he and Jacob basically span the whole day they shouldn't have much trouble figuring out who starts there run.

If it helps you might be able to switch with Sixty on the final slot. Don't know how long there run is though, but with 3 stories even a speed run would take up at least 9 hours for them so that would mean its at least early midday.

Right i've just got a phone call and i can't get my weekends off meaning Friday/Saturday 2-6pm english time is a no go for me. My Dirge of cerberus shift SHOULD be fine but that may be cutting it a bit close, i might just skip a few cutscenes but that may mean that my shift ends earlier than normal.

I just realized i didn't count on UK time being GMT +1 right now...  Meaning i'll have to finish my run in 7 hours to not be late for work due to needing to get ready so from 5am - 12pm.  Might need somebody willing to do filler inbetween DoC and the BBS.

Just normal difficulty.

It might be an idea to get the marathon page sorted out now since we are most likely going to need three streams this time round due to the 3 way races.

You need to have an IRC client like mIRC or IceChat. Just add the jtv server, port and channel name once you install the client. You can find a more thorough explanation by clicking that link on top of the page.

Would it be out of the question for me to use one of the side streams for Paper Mario at some point?

I wouldn't be able to tack on at the end since I'm moving on the 12th and it looks like they're going to be on the main page regardless of if anyone is using them or not.

Would take ~13 hours and I could do it wednesday or friday or possibly starting in the early afternoon monday

I'll need somebody to PM me the twitch login info for when I play Aqua's story. Just saying cause I realized that I didn't have it yet. XD

I guess Demyx and Xaldin were a great help to me. ;D I seriously have no idea how the two of you got a world ahead of me so early. I wasted a few minutes leveling up Roxas and collecting treasure chests, but still... Was a great experience, though. Too bad none of us got to the ending.

It's because we took a different route than you. At least i was starting to catch up AFTER xaldin. Demyx and Xaldin are my choke points in KH2, other than that i can breeze through it.

You leveled up Roxas, and after you won the fight with Setzer, the 2 other skip everything they could, so they choose to loose against Setzer. I think that were the most differences  ;)

I've reached being awake 24 hours on 4 hours sleep due to bad circumstances and i've got to the world of ruin on my FFVI run. I've been feeling fatigued for the past 3 hours barely being able to stay awake but now i feel physically sick so i'm making the decision to cut my game short now. When somebody else gets on then feel free to do some filler until the next shift but for now it's not healthy for me to continue as i will just proceed to make myself even more ill.

The buttons on the side of my computer emit this ratter annoying blue light, so I always cover them up with a sock. And yes apart from the dust its a clean sock :P

Finish times for KHII run:

ChaosBeelzemon - ~9:40
Da_Cloud - ~10:15

We'll have to tie up Matt to a chair and force him to finish his run.

We better chain his feet cuz he needs his hands and if we tie him he can untie himself ;)

In the end he did and after that he was going at a decent speed through all the worlds as well.
