Current Generation / Dragon Age: what's happening in your game?
« on: August 24, 2011, 08:49:16 PM »
Okay I'm starting up a Dragon Age topic as it seems like we have enough people to discuss this series.

I just played Legacy, the new DLC for Dragon Age II. I used one of my rogue saves. Got all the achievements except the one for having a sibling in the party but I wanted to use Fenris, Anders and Varric first because I was more interested in their banter. I read that Fenris will give some romance banter but unfortunately I didn't get any. All he said was something about a card game, and calling Anders an abomination and chiming in about the horrors of mages and magisters, his usual.

I also missed one of the secret bosses and the helm for the armor set you get during the quest. So I started up a different rogue save, and got more preparations done this time in advance. I sold off my junk inventory and some other stuff to make room for things on the quest, and I stocked up on more potions and bought Mythal Favors which I had none of in my previous excursion.

So, I'm ready to go now when I turn the game on again. I just love DA 2, and although I played DA:O I find I like II much better. DA:O was really slow, dated, and I hated the silent avatar. I got tired of the tedious subquests in Orzammar, to the point where I didn't want to do another playthrough. However, DA 2 I've done 5 full playthroughs and have a 6th one going.

Technical Help / Reformat PS 3--gulp
« on: August 17, 2011, 07:43:59 AM »
Okay guys I need some hand holding. Looks like I'm going to have to reformat my PS 3. I keep getting a message that I've maxed out the power to USB devices, I get this message when I boot up, when I load a game, and when I quit a game. I only have a keyboard on there and sometimes a controller wire. My controller doesn't always want to charge up and I have to reset it all the time for it to do so.

I read online that this maxed out USB message goes away if you reformat your PS 3. I just want to be sure that I should do the Quick reformat. My main issue is I have 3 accounts, a US, an EU and a JPN account. Obviously I have game saves on all them. I have my saves backed up and I know I need to make sure my trophies are synced before I start.

Anything else I need to know?

JRPG games / Catherine
« on: July 28, 2011, 01:35:30 AM »
Is anybody planning to get this game? I ordered the "Love Edition," the collector's edition with the pair of polka dot panties. It's been shipped and should arrive by Saturday. Now why I get collector's editions is just beyond me, because I have an inner collector/reseller and a HUGE inner gamer. The collector in me says "Don't open that box! You ruin the mint resale value!" and the gamer in me says "Open that game up right now!" So these two are at war because I really do want to play that game AND keep my pristine collector's package.

Last time this happened was over the collector's edition of Little Big Planet 2. The collector won out only because I was playing something else at the time (Mass Effect 3) and then it came to be that the online was such a mess people couldn't play together very well. I decided to wait to play it until the online straightened out and as a result I still have a pristine box. I'm sure I could get a used edition of the game cheap now.

But this time....whoosh. I really wanna play Catherine and I've been avoiding the forums on this game because I don't want any spoilers for the moment. Unless the gamer talk turns disappointed in the game, right now the forum is in the top 5 on GameFAQs.

I get these collector's editions because I have a built up group of gift certificates on Amazon from buying other games on pre-order. I had three, one from Mass Effect 3 for PS 3 and another from Two Worlds II, and a third from Dragon Age II. So that meant I got a really cheap deal on the collector's ed. for Catherine.

Sigh. Maybe I"ll keep the polka dot panties in the box and buy a used copy.....

News / PSN Back 31 May
« on: May 09, 2011, 03:57:04 PM »
Today PC World and USA Today report that a Sony spokesman has stated that PSN will get a full reboot by May 31. This even longer delay is bad news for gamers.

And gaming companies. Sony may be losing $1 billion at this point, but so are gaming companies.

Likely to be postponed will be White Knight Chronicles 2 due to release in Europe on May 20. Any releases you know about that might be affected?

News / PSN Content Hack, Reason for Outage?
« on: April 26, 2011, 01:33:54 AM »
A tip posted on CVG's website suggests that the reason for the Playstation outage could be a new hack circulating on March 31 that allowed access to PSN store downloads for free. The hack, known as Rebug, allowed regular PS 3 consoles to turn their machines into admin/developer access machines. From there, the hacker could enter a fake credit card number, and because of the level of access, the number would not be checked for authenticity. Anything from PSN store could essentially be downloaded for free. Apparently some videos had appeared on the web about how to do this process.

If this rumor turns out to be true, it would appear that Sony shut down the network to prevent mass free content downloads.

News / Playstation Network Outage, other Sony news
« on: April 21, 2011, 05:03:04 PM »
Most of us are unable to get online on the PSN at the moment, and are getting an error code of 80710A06. This appears to be worldwide as forum participants are reporting outages across Europe, North America and South America. I'm uncertain at this time whether Japan is affected. Sony has acknowledged the outages, describing them as "unplanned" maintenance. The outage also affects PSP portables access, and PC access. The Playstation Forums also appear to be down. Not affected are the web browsers and YouTube feature on Playstation Plus.

There are rumours of hackers but the Anonymous group who hacked PSN earlier in the month has stated they are no longer going to do these kinds of attacks. Another rumour behind the outage is problems with new games like SOCOM 5, something with the online functionality.

In other news, Sony has confirmed the end of production for the PSP Go portable in order to "focus" on the next gen of the PSP.

Also, there is a sale going on for Playstation Plus until May 3, you can currently get 15 months for the price of 12, and this also will apply to current subscribers, but you'd have to buy another year on top of what you have for the 15 month deal.

Zodiac Job System / Anyone else have an IZJS PSN theme? O.O
« on: March 13, 2011, 07:48:05 PM »
Today I got tired of my pea green screen on my Japan PS 3 main screen. I thought maybe I'd change the color on it and among the theme selections I got an English FFXII International Zodiac Job System theme! @.@ I don't know how that got there. I haven't played IZJS on my PS 3, obviously because the disc isn't going to play on my NTSC PS 3. So I don't know if this theme is a free one or not? I do have an FFXIII theme on my PS 3, can't remember if I bought that or it was a freebie but that one I did get on purpose. How did I get an IZJS theme on my PS 3 Japan account then? Is it just there?

News / WKC Server to shut down
« on: January 09, 2011, 06:42:34 PM »
We have heard that White Knight Chronicles server in Japan will be closing down within a few weeks. This will be for the first game. Level 5 is consolidating gameplay to their WKC 2 servers which also service the first game, but only the game on the WKC 2 disc. I'm watching for any more updates, but it is reasonable that the WKC International servers that we are using will also shut down well before the second game is released.

Update: the date for Japan apparently is January 31, and possible date for International server shut down is February 15. I'm still looking for more information.

But I'm mentioning this now because time on the servers may be limited. Those with Japanese files may soon be unable to play them unless players move to the next game. If you have the International version, there is no announcement yet, but I suggest that if you still have goals for the first game, you get them done soon before the first game's server is also shut down on our end. Get your files ready and the guild ranks you want while you still can. Some of you may want to wait until the second game where achieving guild rank will be faster. Others may want to carry over their Items and cash. Just a heads up, because Level 5 is not announcing things far in advance.

Starting up a new Daily Update topic as we turn over a new year and we're well over 500 posts on the former thread.

Still trying to finish up an Insanity Adept game on Mass Effect 2. Played a little WKC with FF12GM today, we did some reminiscing over days with FFXII and how gaming has changed so much in just a few years.

News / FF Trading Cards announced
« on: December 30, 2010, 10:04:50 AM »
A new trading card game featuring Final Fantasy characters has been announced in the past couple of days. The cards are set to release in Japan on February 25. The gameplay will be similar to Pokemon trading cards. There will be two sets of cards, a Black set and a White set. The sets will cost about $18 each, and booster packs will cost around $4 apiece.

At this announcement, FFTogether's own webmaster Bram is digging in the sofa for small coins to buy his set :D

Current Generation / Nominations for Game of the Year 2010
« on: November 18, 2010, 12:47:32 AM »
We're going to do a poll of FFT members for Game of the Year 2010. But before I can write the poll, we need nominations of games to put up for vote. So post your nominations here. I know I've posted this topic in Current Generation, but we'll include ANY game for nominations, because many older games have been released as downloads for consoles and handhelds,  or re-released with updates, making "old" games new again.

So, post away, and when we have a good group of nominations, I will post a poll. The top 3 Games of the Year will be posted in our upcoming newsletter for December.
