General Help Topic
« on: March 14, 2010, 01:25:59 AM »
Now, even though Final Fantasy XIII is very linear, it still have a regular FF's amount of challenges and tough battles. This topic is here so that anyone who seems to be having problems with any part of the game may freely ask others who have completed said part for assistance.

Posting story related spoilers in this topic isn't allowed, however you are allowed to use the names of unrelated bosses (like the scorpion in chapter 1, or eidelon names). Bosses that are story related must be mark, so must the strategies to defeat them (some people rather not read them).

Hecatoncheir is really the only fight I have had trouble with the whole game, and I can't seem to get past him. I don't think I'm underdeveloped. Vanille has LVL 4 Sab; LVL 3 Med and LVL 3 Rav. Fang has LVL 4 Sen; LVL 3 Com, and LVL 3 Sab. I've been using the default Paradigms that they give me because I've done all the other Eidolon fights my first try, this is the only one I can't seem to finish

any suggestions?

Eidelons fights are fought differently than normal fights, so usually a different strategy works the best.

Another fight what gave me a lot of trouble is this one:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I found that the best way is to put any HP+ accessories on Lightning, and ignore branches of the Crystal Dome(aka Crystarium) that don't go towards HP ups or abilities, and coming back for them later. Best party to use is Lightning, Fang, and Hope, and here's a Paradigm Setup:

Relentless Assault --> RAV/COM/RAV --> 1
Agression --> COM/COM/RAV ----------> 2
Delta Attack --> COM/SEN/RAV --------> 3
Diversity --> RAV/COM/MED -----------> 4  Default
Combat Clinic --> MED/MED/SEN --------> 5
Evened Odds --> MED/SYN/SAB ---------> 6

Stay on 4 while taking out the 4 "minions" of the boss and switch to 1 to stagger the real boss. Once broken, switch to 2 and attack until he uses a move called Destrudo. Immediately buff with 6 and then switch to 5 and pray.

Recover fast, and repeat as needed to heal, bear with Destrudo, and stagger the boss. This is definitely the hardest fight in the first half of the game.

I posted this on the Sandsea but it's better if it stay here

For Upgrading just wait till Chapter 11-12-13.

For the Bonus buy 99x Sturdy Bone, Barbed Tail or Vibrant Ooze (80 Gil) as you'll need only 36 of those for a 3x Bonus and are the cheapest.
Then after the Jelly for the Exp use the Ultracompact Reactor found at Special Material Shop (50.000 Gil) which is cheaper then buying 99x of another material and give more exp OR use Superconductors found at LENORA Shop or Particle Accelerator.

If the names of Materials are wrong it's because I have the JAP ver. and I used Translation ;D

Take care to get what you like or you will be forced to like what you get.

Hmmm it seems we have different strategies there wee.

Personally I prefer to use a more aggressive style.

Yay, thanks Cloud...that really helped.

The distance was the ingredient I was missing. I couldn't keep up with the healing otherwise, so kudos :)

I need to imply into my own help topic for some help. Or rather, answers to a few questions:

1) How far can I go in chapter 11 before it goes "Yeah by the way you can never go back here now"
2) Are the enemies supposed to be impossible in groups of 4 and up?
3) I have 2000 HP about, and enemies are hitting 500-1000 damage, did I mess something up? =P
4) I 1 starred the first hunt because he kept 2 hitting my team and I got double the target time, does this mean I cant get the trophy now?

1 - Chapter 11 is completely re-accessible in Chapter 13.
2 - It depends on the type of enemies. Something King Behemoths, yes, but something like Goblins, no.
3 - Nope, just a Defender/Sentinal is needed to soak up the damage.
4 - Missions can be redone as many times as you like later to get 5 stars. ;D

1- cool, sounds good, plus i just discovered teleporters, so that also helps :3
2- King behemoths destroy me, and a party of 3 goblins has a 60/40 chance of killing me. usually because they'll use goblin punch and hit a nice 1800 while another finishes the target off. Mainly any party of 3+ enemies has a good chance of giving me a game over, especially if I can't take one out within the first 20 seconds.
3- Most enemies use AoE attacks and destroy lightning before she can heal the sentinel though >.>
4- ah okay that's cool then ^^

Well chapter 11 is also the end area so don't be suprissed if you get stuck against some group of enemies. Even when you come back after chapter 13 the king behemoths can be quite nasty if you don't pay attention.

Also if you need some training in chapter 11 you must go to the first part of the mines. (follow the story arrow on the grand open field). The monsters in the mine area give decent CP for relatively easy fights ;D

And more advanced try to learn how your characters move when preforming attacks. Having a sentinel is great, but try to move your characters away from it will even prove better. For example using "Ruin" with an Commander will usually let the character moves to the back, where "attack" will usually let the character move to the front. Look where your sentinel is standing and use the right attack to move your other character away. It doesn't always works, but if it works it proves quite useful.

Any tips on a Chapter 11 boss?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I have a team of Fang, Hope and Light. He ends up inflicting me constantly with status ailments and accessory's that guard against Daze and such he inflicts isn't helping either. Help please? This is seriously starting to become a roadblock.

Vanille will be better than Hope, to be honest. Characters with high strength can damage him greatly and very easily.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

For full reference, my Paradigms were:
SAB (Van) -> RAV (Light) -> COM (Fan)
RAV (Van) -> RAV (Light) -> COM (Fan)
RAV (Van) -> COM (Light) -> COM (Fan)
MED (Van) -> MED (Light) -> MED (Fan)
RAV (Van) -> RAV (Light) -> SEN (Fan)
SAB (Van) -> MED (Light) -> SAB (Fan)

I found this to be the best strategy I had for him. Anything else resulted in a quick death.
(Please also note that I do not have the English Version yet and this was completely my JAP version strategy. I don't think there is any difference between the two though, but I wrote this in how the English Version was made)

Here's a tip: Don't sell any elemental accessories if you're trying to get the Treasure Hunter achievement or trophy. Your only other chance would be to get treasures in Chapter 11 area, upgrade them, dismantle, then upgrade again.
