Here is a list of all the Paradigms in the game and a brief description of each role.

Description of Roles:
[Commandos/ Attackers] - use physical attacks and non-elemental magic spells for supreme damage, terrible at charging chain gauges, attacks make chain gauges drain slower, great team with ravagers/ blasters, role levels award augmented attacks (physical and magical damage is boosted)

[Ravagers/ Blasters] - use variety of magic attacks, great at boosting chain gauges, quick drain of chain gauge, great team with commandos/ attackers, role levels award chain boosts (give physical and magical damage more of an ability to increase chain gauge)

[Sentinel/ Defender] - use abilities that can provoke enemies and defend themselves, makes chain gauge depleat slowly with a successful provoke attack, great team with medics/ healers, saboteurs/ jammers, and synergists/ enhancers due to their low HP, role levels award damage reduction (increases resistance to physical and magical damage)

[Saboteur/Jammer] - uses spells to weaken enemies with status ailments, increase chain gauge more than commandos/ attackers, slow chain gauge drainage, great team with ravages/ blasters to boost chain gauge, role levels award a boost in success rate (makes it more likely for abilities to succeed)

[Synergist/ Enhancers] - uses spells to improve party's wellness with status enhancements, no effect on chain gauge, great team with medics/ healers and sentinels/ defenders when you need to rebuff your teammates and when they are in trouble, role levels award extended enhancements (increases duration of status enhancements cast by a character)

[Medic/ Healer] - the healer in the group, used to get rid of status ailments, no effect on chain gauge, can be teamed up with anything for a quick heal or another medic if you are in a major need of a healing,  role levels award augmented healing (improves effectiveness of healing abilities and items)

Ah I do love a good set of Paradigms :D
I always use Lightning, Hope, Vanille with this set-up;

Relentless Assault - COM/RAV/RAV
Discretion - COM/MED/MED
Salvation - MED/MED/MED
Evened Odds - MED/SYN/SAB
Tri-Disaster - RAV/RAV/RAV
Cerberus - COM/COM/COM

Works pretty well for me :)

Until Hope learns Haste i use Lightning, Vanille, and Sazh. With this team i usually use this paradigm set.

Relentless Assault - COM + RAV + RAV
Decimation - COM + RAV + SYN
Guerilla - RAV + SAB + SYN
Smart Bomb - RAV + SAB + RAV
Hero's Charge - COM + MED + SYN
Discretion - MED + MED + COM

I usually have Guerilla as my starting paradigm. Vanille has the offensive debuffs, and Sazh has the offensive buffs. They multiply with each other. With deprotect, deshell, and imperil on an enemy, and bravery, faith, and enfire on your party, its more than 5 times the damage you are doing. And this multiplies with the chain percentage as well. With Guerilla Lightning will be chaining the enemies while Vanille's sabateur spells steady their stagger gauge. You'd be surprised how fast Lightning can chain and even kill enemies with this since she will also have Haste on her right away. Also if you get enfire, that buffs your fire spells as a ravager, same thing with any other element, but fire is usually the priority. So Lightning can do pretty good damage as a ravager while chaining them at the same time.

Once I switch to another team, my paradigm sets are always changing. Post game my favorite team is Fang, Lightning, Vanille. Not just because they are awesome, or because they are girls, (both reasons are valid though), but because they are the best overall team, but certain other teams are optimal for certain fights in postgame.
