I get the feeling this sounds similar to the areas on FFVII/FFVIII where you run through an area and the screen switches to a new screen and you run through that to the next area but not in 3rd person perspective.

Hope and Snow sit up quite high in this category. I used to utterly despise Hope earlier, but six chapters later I have grown used to him slightly. I still harbor strong dislike for him though - as well as his initial nemesis Snow.

Despite the fact that the culprit only indirectly caused this to happen, Hope just despises him so much for him. And what does he do?

Most of the time he is just hesitant, speechless and almost puzzled. So much for your lust for revenge my friend.

As for Snow, how many times do I hear his voice booming around yelling "SERAH!!" and "HERO!!"? It is annoying and it just makes me want to see Lightning slash him in the face. The only redeeming factor is that Snow

I heard a lot of negative responses to this game. I never played it, so I didn't understand the overwhelming hate for it, so I'm a tad curious to try it out.

...And here folks, is where ChaosWOTW starts his rant.

First off, let me start with the story. To me, it was really too generic and it's been there, done that before. The whole "to save the world from destruction" has seriously been done so many times Square.

More memorable characters. In my eyes, the only memorable characters in this game were Light, Vanille, Sazh and Fang. The rest... I have no comment. Sometimes I could downright despise Hope and Snow practically gets on everyone's nerves (including my last nerve).

The villains were downright pathetic. Jihl Nabaat had some potential to be a true Final Fantasy villain, alas, that never came to be...
Was Rosch really a villain?
Raines was more of an anti-hero than a true villain.
Barthandelus was just there to throw random plot twists at the party.
Orphan = Yu Yevon.

The linearity needed to be brought down a few notches. It would be much better also if the whole game DIDN'T feel like a marathon of battles in a straight line just to get to the next cutscene/boss battle or both. The world also needs to open up more. At the end of the game, the only number of areas you could completely explore were 7. While that pleased me at first, it just gets annoying seeing the same environments over and over again.

The game also needs to have more depth in gameplay. The fact that every character only has a certain number of abilities in each role is disappointing. Where are some of the classic spells? Eidolons were practically useless, the summons in this game (like in FFXII) are that ineffective it makes me laugh. Honestly.

Crystarium could have been MUCH better. Like FFXII's License Board, it is guilty for giving each character essentially the same augments and abilities. There wasn't enough uniqueness. Also, what is there to do after filling up the board. I spent hours upon hours working on completing the Sphere Grid in FFX, why couldn't it have been similar to that?

The game needed some kind of puzzles somewhere. Dungeons in the game are just linear affairs with battle after battle. Couldn't have there been some puzzles thrown in to get the player's head actually working?

...and that folks ends my rant. Before anyone asks, despite my complaints, I don't hate Final Fantasy XIII. In fact, I far from hate it. I think it could have done a lot better.

I liked the game, but I didn't love it. The whole religion is the villian has been done so many times already in video games that this story line didn't impress me too much. However, I did enjoy it and I loved visiting all the temples and finally defeating Sin in the end. It just wasn't ground breaking for me.

I wasn't fond of the linear game play and I wished that I could have explored the world more. (If I can breed chocobo's in VII while a large meteor is headed for the earth, I can veer off the summoner path!)  The melodrama kind of got annoying too at times.

I liked the characters. Yuna is one of my favorite FF girls and Auron is one of my favorite FF characters overall. Tidus was annoying and the laughing scene is one cutscene that makes all other horrible cutscenes oscar-worthy. (Why is there no Skip Scene button!?) Kimahri was a good character but I wish he had some more character development in more parts of the story. Rikku is simply amazing. I don't know why so many people hate her in battle, her Mix combinations are simply next to badass. Lulu and Wakka... eh. I didn't like them from the beginning but I learned to like them as the story progressed more and learn about more about them.

The battle system was also nice and it was nice to be able to switch out the characters. The only thing that would have made it perfect is if when your party died, you would be able to bring in the characters that were sitting out to finish the battle like in XII.

Overall I found the game good.

I, for one, still don't see why they choose mobile phones over the NDS. They've sold 31 million NDS' in Japan alone and they love handheld gaming so surely from a profitable point of view the NDS would make more sense. I've seen screenshots for this game and that is certainly far more appealing visual wise than what I have seen from 4 Heroes of Light. That game has (in my opinion) a mess of an art style that really does not do it for me. At least in this game, despite its strong resemblance to the first FF game, I'm drawn in to the familiarity of colorful 2D sprites goodness.

Seeing as this is, in the end, for phones, I can't see why SE wouldn't bother giving it a global release but for the iPhone and iTouch. BTW, here are the screenshots I'm talking about:

Square Enix is beginning to prioritize visuals as a primacy over everything else. FFXIII demonstrated that rather well. It was just one massive cinematic march from start to finish and compared to its predecessors, the game was just conspicuously lacking on the gameplay front.

Bottom line, Square Enix should go back to whatever they did that made the series simply great in the past. Wada's constant excuses for FFXIII being a letdown is getting on my nerves. Stop making Final Fantasy a new type of game. That's my answer. Last time I checked, no one really asked for Final Fantasy to become a new type of game.

Nothing new here. SE tried to take a bold move with the direction of the game, couldn't cater to everyone's tastes and FFXIII ended up being this year's gaming equivalent of Marmite.

As much as I admire SE's resolve to try and bring something really fresh to the table, I still dislike FFXIII for what is ultimately a (visually beautiful) movie where the gameplay is mostly restricted to a one-way linear affair through marathons of battles and wallpaper scenaries just to get to the next cutscene.

I really don't get Kingdom Hearts 3D. I looked at the screeenshots and it baffles me that they are wearing Kingdom Hearts clothing yet they are fighting nobodies? Um... get with the program Nomura?

Oh wow, I've just taken a glimpse at the screenshot scans of Versus and I must say, it has got me uncontrollably excited. Take the first screenshot of Noctis on a cliffedge - I am loving the idea of being able to run around all that space. Style-wise, it really does not look like a Final Fantasy game at all.

However, I can't help but feel this is SE just saying to us: "Look! Open world, we've gone western! Do you love us now?". While I have no real objections to this (because it's already looking and sounding great compared to FFXIII), I can see this trend turning SE's future games into imitations of western games in the future rather than unique games of their own..

To be honest, I'm not all too excited for Versus XIII. I can't say I am fond of a FFVII remake either, and for reasons I'd rather not explain. I wonder how development for Agito is doing. I haven't heard anything that is about that title lately.
