Title: Final Fantasy XV ideas
Post by: Ally on August 18, 2010, 07:17:01 PM
Yes, Final Fantasy XV is still a long ways off but what are your ideas that you would want Square to put into the game. Share your ideas of what you would love to see in the next, next Final Fantasy.

- A fast-paced combat system (something like in FFXII, but more challenging)
- Lots of areas to explore, maybe even disable zone borders and make it something like Oblivion and WoW
- Lots of optional quests, mini-games and bosses
- Post-game content
- More character depth and background
- I'll leave the story to the developers (self-created stories are still pretty much a lie)

Firstly, no more sci-fi settings. Sakaguchi said it himself that he loved FFIX because it feels like a proper Final Fantasy. While I don't want complete medieval settings, I wouldn't mind seeing a world with kingdoms and empires yet with steampunk or some modern day elements. Something like Versus is expected to be.

I would like some non-humans in my party. The party in FFXIII is dominated by humans only. What happened to the Red XIIIs and the Kimahris? They were cool and provided variety to the party. But no weird Quinas though.

Chocobos, Moogles and Cid are staples. They should remain. Moogles should be the cat-like forms they were before and not the bunny ones we see in Ivalice. Cid should be a friendly NPC or playable character again than a villain.

As for protagonists, I would like to see FFXV move away again from the young-men-with-swords-and-personality-issues approach. How about another female protagonist (though FFXIII has already just done that), or a main character who isn't human? (Something like Zidane I guess)

A more, memorable villain. With the exception of Dr. Cid from Final Fantasy XII, I haven't liked the villains since Final Fantasy X. I would like a villain who is memorable like from the start of the Final Fantasy franchise. Villains with personalities like The Emperor, Golbez, Exdeath or Kefka would really seal the deal for me.

I would love to see a returned world map or something similar where players can wander the world to find places of interest. I would prefer to have fewer, yet interesting towns/cities than numerous, generic towns. I loved the towns in FFXII, notably Bhujerba and Archades. If SE can impress me again with the towns, I will be glad. More floating continents will get a big "yes" from me.

Just one more thing, Gilgamesh as a playable character.  :P

Sorry again for the tl;dr post. ;]

I would really like a steampunk setting like in IX and VI, or a nice mythological setting like in X. I wouldn't be annoyed with a Sci-Fi setting like that of VII too, but I like to have my sci-fi blended in with a good amount of fantasy. Perhaps... don't make everything too explainable by science? (e.g. magic; in FF7, it was explained through the concept of Materia, in FF8, Para-Magic). To me, the sci-fi and fantasy blend was just right in XII, and I'd really like to see that.

Fast-paced combat system like in XII—it's 'out in the world' while still somehow maintaining the feel of the older FFs where you look through the menu. In terms of enemy encounters though, I'd rather if they still have some kind of battle transition like in XIII as opposed to fighting enemies right where they are. Just... no random encounters again, blah.

Job System OR Sphere Grid—or any sort of customization system that resembles these two. I'd really like to see a system which gives a fair amount of freedom and opportunity for players to personalize their characters to a good extent. To be honest, I like character casts with set jobs better so I'd rather have another 'Sphere Grid', but I'll be fine with the Job System.

As Sentinel said, staples, staples, STAPLES! The Prelude, Chocobos, Cid, Moogles, they should make a return as always (especially since the absence of the former and the latter in the most recent installment).

I'd love it if there's a World Map and you get an airship which you can actually ride. I'd like to explore the corners of the world once more, perhaps find hidden things. ::) I'm expecting some extent of this from Versus XIII since Nomura has shed some light on us about it.

Dazzling, interesting towns and a number of optional dungeons won't do any harm. I really liked the places in IX—Madain Sari, Treno, Daguerreo, Esto Gaza, Black Mage Village, they're all so creative and interesting. Even the three major nations—Alexandria, Lindblum, Burmecia, each of them felt special in their own way. Maybe another 'world' too (floating continent or some underground world). I loved Terra and Bran Bal even though it's a one-time visit.

As for protagonists, I don't mind them going to the same formula. :P But I'd be happy if he's over 21 years old, looks at least more mature than a high school kid and has a striking, perhaps emotional backstory, WITHOUT being too whiny (Zidane was a good one with the latter part—his backstory was great, and he didn't self-perpetuate his rejection towards himself, which is often the cause of whininess). I'd also like to see different races, even if it's something like the humanoid rats of Burmecia. I wouldn't mind something like Quina too—I thought they could be more interesting if more than three existed in the entire game. :P If they want something extreme, make the main character an animal. Not a humanoid animal, but... an animal. :o I'd love to see that.

The last good villains I knew were Seymour and Kuja. Please, bring back someone like them. Galenth was just... meh... honestly. You can throw in a clever and cunning villain like Kuja and The Emperor, or even a total mad hatter like Kefka. Just make them memorable—and evil. If needed, make them achieve The Kefka—destroy the world to smithereens and have the party fight to revive the world instead of just saving it. :P

TL;DR - Square, look back at VI and IX and develop a new idea based on their general concept. >_> If you manage to make something like that again (otherwise known as not just focusing on graphics but story and gameplay too), my fire of faith for you will be completely re-lit.

Call me cliche but I would like a main character with gravity defying hair. I would like it like FFIX where each guy specialises in one thing, i.e jobs but each playable character should stick to his own job.

As above-mentioned, not a party full of humes, I love the diversity of the party like in almost all final fantasys like ( a party of thieves, knights, princesses, thugs, ordinary people, lost mages and so on).

A playable character's death would be good. I'd love something like Mareg from Grandia 2.

A villain with extremely epic lines like Kefka, a backstory that is actually connected to both characters past and present(Seymour).

A level system would be nice, much like FFIX and FFVII and no sphere grid or crystarium or something, many many items with many uses like FFVII and a bunch of accessories and armor like FFVII.

I believe that this topic should be renamed to "Your Dream Final Fantasy" as that what everyone describes.

How about a real awesome villain? When was the last time SE actually made a villain everyone hates to love? I'd look for more of a traitor kind of villain, something you'd never expect, like the character could be a close friend of the protagonist and end up becoming a traitor and the main antagonist. Or something like that. One who appears frequently, and doesn't just get tossed aside and ignored until the final battle.

I know this won't necessarily be popular, but a fusion between the castle-era style with a fusion of semi-futuristic style. If done correctly, I could see this being pretty neat. Bring back world maps. If anything, go to a Dragon Quest VIII style of world map. It was very well done, and it didn't take 20 seconds of walking to get to the next city.

Real-time battles, or something close to it. Something like FFXII's battle system would be absolutely marvellous - I loved the Gambit system, and it made a nice difference from the standard turn-based stuff. Something like Final Fantasy XII and XIII put together, if done right, will be an excellent combination.

Lots and lots of optional sidequests. Insanely hard bosses in insanely long dungeons. Some sort of post-game content I'm looking for like in Star Ocean games or other RPGs. Recurring elements of the series need to make a return as well.

a real job system, that's really all i ask for :P

and if i HAD to add more things, more comic relief, some of the storylines are just so depressing it's pathetic sometimes (i'm looking at YOU FF6 >:()

NO FRIGGIN EMOS!!! (i'm looking at YOU terra/cloud/squall)

and actual RPG battles not the weird FF13 almost RPG battles

and the moogles, gotta have the moogles ;D

and stop making cid a bad guy :P

Time for my epic ideas. ;D

- Setting has been perfect in the most of the FF games pretty much. I like a blend, and FFX, FFXII, as well as FFXIII all had their blends.

- Battle System, see here. (http://www.fftogether.com/forum/index.php?topic=1599.0)

- Characters. Although FFXIII probably hosts my favorite cast in a Final Fantasy game, I'd like an 8-party-er with 4 people in battle in place of 3. See my battle system note above. In terms of personality, I'd like a main character in adulthood, but I'd still want some characters in their teens. I don't mind if the main character is male or female, since Ashe and Light covered female, that want has been satisfied. Now I don't mind either way. Also, I want guests. Many of them, like in FFIX. Also, I want Cid to be a main character again like FFVII and FFIV.

- Villains. Someone maniacal yet tied to the party, similar to Doctor Cid. In fact, Doctor Cid was probably the best villain in FF ever, and sooooo deserved to be main antagonist.

- Level System - See the battle system notes.

- Mapping - I don't mind semi-linear, so long as there are forks(long forks) off of the beaten path and plenty of areas. Something right in the middle of FFX's mapping and FFXII's mapping would be excellent.

- Staples. Victory Fanfare. Prelude. Moogles(bunny moogles should be in Ivalice only, they're an Ivalice staple). Chocobos. Chocobo breeding(see FFVII, this feature of keeping your own chocobo was awesome). Sidequests. Main Minigame(Triple Triad, Tetra Master, Blitzball, Mark Hunting).

- SQUARE, GO DO YOUR THANG! DO NOT try too hard to Westernize. A little is okay, but not too much. Please.

Hmmm only one thing i really want. Guests like FFXII where in one battle you fight a super boss and guess who fights alongside you.. GILGAMESH. That is all.

Btw that was dead serious.

worked for gilgamesh in FF12:RW (a level 3 summon is like a 6th party member almost)

Someone beat Matt to it.  ::) I wouldn't mind Gilgamesh in the party, maybe as a playable summon like they did in FFX and XII RW.

As a summon, I don't mind. As a guest character in the story is where I'd have to put my foot down. Him taking a moderate to major role in any future FF story sort of solidifies the theory that all FF games happen in the same universe, and if that's true, then that just opens up about a million plot holes. Gilgamesh should be an extra, but his only prominent story role, I think, should be in FFV.

I actually would like it if Gilgamesh was maybe a (secret) playable party member. Something like Gogo in VI, but perhaps with more significance. That would be awesome. :o

ok..then, well what i want is something like FFIX..not fully medieval and not that much technology...just the airships and engines are pretty cool. story..but not too much story. fun and interactive battle system thats not long and boring like FINAL FANTASY 13!! ..oh...give it some romance too, FF with out romance just sucks. If the story is very serious..example; alot of people dies, etc. please make the main character talkative and fun and cheerful to live the story up (tidus, anyone?) anyways..about Gilgamesh, i would love to fight him as optional boss or love having him as a summon..but the thought of him being in the main story just....doesnt seems that good.

For Gilgamesh, Square should just make a new series just for him. I mean tell us how he became what he is now (A swords whore ;) )  i mean, how he became a red samurai... the story could be about how Gilgamesh sister got kidnap and he have to go rescue her and ends up in a castle and was hired by a king to go all around the world and destroy true evil (every un-original RPG reference) yea..so if he was to be an important character in the main story of any game...he should be the main character of his own game/his own world instead..

i would really like more dynamic characters and i enjoy fast-paced battle systems but at the same time i want it to still have RPG elements (like the Star Ocean Battle System)

also, im tired of the villian always being some emperor, politician, etc. lately, i want to see a villian thats more dynamic.

i think in terms of side quests, hunts, etc. FF is doing a fine job so far. lastly, i just hope the story is interesting and i want to know what happens next

Exactly. FF13's sidequests are okay at first but just get so repetitive. Nothing to FF12's sidequests, which in my opinion are the best sidequests in any game. However, FF13 isn't the first FF game sidequests have been weak in. FFIV wasn't exactly full of them apart from summons, and many of FFVIII's sidequests could only be completed during certain portions of the game.

exactly, even tho ff4 didnt have it that much, it was still pretty good. and its the same with 8 and 13, but in 13, you're more limited. u can only do it on chapter 9/10 (dont remember) and when you're in the final dungeon (the red moving platform place)  when you can either go back to grand pulse or cacoon...

Yeah, but FFVIII had that to a certain extent as well. You're only able to fully access all the towns of the world map up till the end of disc 3, and then you can only explore the time warped world after that. FFXIII is much the same with its Chapter 13 exploration.

Cid Will be a Villain on Final Fantasy XV just like Dr. Cid on Final Fantasy XII, Cid Raines on Final Fantasy XIII,  Cid Aulstyne from Final Fantasy Type-0 and Cid will be a Villain on Final Fantasy Versus XIII as well and on Final Fantasy XV it will have 6 playable characters and a Cid will not be a playable Character on Final Fantasy XV and Cid will be one of the Villains and the Characters will have to Fight Cid on Final Fantasy XV.

I'd like the return of the job class system in which each character has their own specific set of abilities. This allows for more of a strategic battle setting in which you must carefuly select and develop your characters in order to have an efficient team.

I would like a return to medieval times style game, no guns, no modern tech, just swords and magic

I'd like to see the world map and controllable airships come back. Maybe split the gameplay up over about ten years or more so that the player can see even the youngest team members developing into adults, that way you could include both the younger party members and older ones, maybe one of the initial party members is an old sage/teacher kind of character who passes away part way through the story.

I like Materia. It's shiny. Maybe some kind of combination of 7's materia slot system and 9's ability equipment system? Different materia in equipment allows you to learn different abilities?

Limit Breaks. I want them back. Everybody loves a character's unique super finishing move.

I would actually love to see Akitoshi Kawazu at the helm once again to see what he can come up with. He's the person who invented the levelling system of Final Fantasy II. Back in 1990 his new system backfired because of the systems limitations but these days game designing is practically only limited by your imagination. His line-up of spinn-offs and other series is quite interesting as well. Romancing Saga, SaGa Frontier, Chrystal Chronicles.

Now add to that Hiroyuki Ito who invented quite a lot of systems mostly known the levelling system of FFVI and the ADB of Final Fantasy XII. Hiroyuki Ito is also known for his sense of balance, as most of the games he lead have a well balanced story to game-play ratio. The later would be nice given the heavy discussions which raised duo to the big difference between the balance in FFXII & FFXIII.

I'm not a fan of fantasizing about sequels. If they are built up too much I usually end up disappointed. Better to remain oblivious and enjoy the surprise.

And FFXII's combat was NOT fast-paced unless you did the side quests. That's one part I do not want a return to. Gambits definitely should be used again at some point. No to the combat itself.

Even though I'm gonna smash SE for not delivering something innovative in a long time with the FF series, I can't think of a whole lot they could really do that hasn't been done already.  But then again, I'm not the one being paid big $ to give direction to the series.  If they are going to deliver something like FFXIII and claim it to be innovate, then I would rather they just return to their roots and do something like they did in FFX, and just throw a few bells and whistles in the combat system.

If they are going to have an AI dependent combat, at least give me the ability to take control of any party member during the fight and tell them exactly which spells and moves I want them using so there is at least some player input involved.  And allow me to disable AI control so I can switch and give them the commands I want individually.  That way I can actually plan strategy and control the fight to my liking.  The ability to pause and issue commands would also be good.  The ability to switch party members in and out of battle would also be good, that way you can plan strategy on the fly instead of reloading the game because you didn't know you were gonna need an extra healer for this fight.  I would have liked FFXIIIs battle system a whole lot more if I could switch control of members in battle, and disable/enable specific attacks to suit the situation as I deemed fit.  That is basically SE saying the player isn't smart enough to make these decisions, so they don't see that option as necessary.  I didn't feel like they gave enough player input in the battle system in FFXIII.  Sure they let you pick the setup, but they didn't let you pick which moves, nor give you freedom of control in battle.  I honestly would have micro managed the hell out of the AI in FFXIII if I had the ability to, because they were consistently throwing out stuff I didn't want.
