Forum News / New Feature: Additional Profile Fields
« on: July 19, 2011, 11:49:07 AM »
I've just added an additional set of profile fields to your accounts. From now on you can also add your PSN, XBOX Live and Steam account names to your profile. Just like the icq, aim, msn and yin tags these fields will not only be visible on your profile page, but also in the profile field of each post you'll make.

Later on I'll try to create a global page where you can view all the gamer tags of each member just like the topic overview we currently have here: Post your Xbox Live gamertag, Steam, PSN name, and Nintendo Wi-Fi Friend codes!

Duo to the current nature of the Wi-Fi Friend codes those have been left out. Should the Wii-U feature a better friend system those will be added in the future as well.

Forum News / Forum Update -- [14 July 2011]
« on: July 14, 2011, 10:40:19 AM »
Shadow Gilgamesh pointed out a bug in the login system. As you might remember I've changed the login system to email only to prevent us from auto-login bots. But it seemed that after the update the login system went back to normal, allowing users to log in through both email and username. This has now been restored to email only like it was suppose to be, so pay that in mind when you try to log in again.

Also duo to a lot of accounts being nothing more than spammers/advertisers be them bots or not I've cleared up our member base. I've deleted all account who hasn't roughly logged in during the past 2 months and who also hadn't reached the rank of moppet yet (which requires 2 hours of online time).

The combination of both should prevent any active users from being removed from the system, but in case your account did get removed feel free to make a new one :D

Bugs & Suggestions / Broken/wrong Links report topic
« on: June 14, 2011, 08:47:11 PM »
I've been updating the website a lot during the past half year and as long as I'm able I'm not planning to stop this process. However as of this it might happen that old references stop working properly or point to non existing places. I'm always doing my best to update these links as I'm updating the website, but sometimes a link get forgotten.

So should you find any link on our website which is broken or isn't working properly. From a link in one of the menus, a review which doesn't exist any more or an affiliate who's website is no more. Please report them here, so that I can fix them ;)

Forum News / FFtogether's Toolbar (updated)
« on: June 13, 2011, 01:19:39 PM »
Well some of you might remember the toolbar made for FFTogether. Its been quite some time since I've updated the thing and mainly after our last forum update many features of the toolbar stopped working. Can't make up excuses, but the main reason was that I as Chrome user couldn't use the toolbar myself.

That was until I recently discovered that they've now adjusted the toolbar to work with Chrome as well. The Chrome version is still in Beta, but apart from it having to reload with each new page its working quite well. Besides Chrome it also works with FireFox, Internet Explorer and Safari.

For those who want to I've recreated the toolbar and removed any non working features. You can download the toolbar here ->, or if you've already got it installed make sure to update it to the latest version.

Also note that the toolbar is completely adjustable. You can choice to hide existing items or choice to add existing items from a large list of applications. Including a twitter reader, facebook manager and much more.

Ivalice Spy / Updated roles for Ivalice Spy (suggestion topic)
« on: June 11, 2011, 10:45:56 PM »
Okay I told you guys I would try to bring this game to a new strategic level. Below are the new roles, read them and tell me what you think of them. And if something isn't clear just ask.

Just like before the roles which you play during the game must remain a secret to everybody. The only excretions to this rule are stated within the role description.

Primary Roles
During the start of the game each player will get 1 primary role, each player must have 1 role for the game to work.

The Citizens
The Citizens is the default role of the game. Your job as citizen is to stay alive and find out the spies. The Citizens can win the game if they manage to eliminate all the spies.

The Spies
The role of the spy is to kill of the citizens during the night. Each round they will PM a new victim which will be murdered. The Spies win if they manage to kill of all the citizens.

Secondary Roles
Besides a Primary role some players will be appointed a secondary Job. This Secondary role will give the player some extra abilities during the game.

The Guardian Angel
The Guardian Angel has the gift to protect 1 person from dangers harm. Each round the Guardian Angel will be asked who he wants to protect, the person who received the protection from the Guardian Angel can't be killed by the Spy or Wizard for the remaining of the round.

Additional Notes:
- The Guardian Angel may grand his protection to all players except himself.

The Wizard
The Wizard will be granted two Spells, both which he can only use once. After the spy killed a citizen the Wizard will be given the name of the victim and be asked if he wants to use his spells. Should he use his Life spell he can bring back the victim from the death. Should he want to cast Death he can appointed a second victim.

Additional Notes:
- The Wizard may use Life to bring himself back from the death.
- Both spells may only be used once. Its not possible to trade one spell for another, so you can't give up death to cast life twice.

The Mayor
During the majority of the game the mayor will just be like any other citizen. However should a voting end in a tie the mayor will be granted a second vote. This vote may only be placed on the people who are tied.

Additional Notes:
- The role of the mayor is public. This means that everybody will know who the Major is during the game.
- Even the Spy may become the mayor.
- Should the mayor die, a voting will take place to decide who will become the next mayor. Should this voting end in a tie the mayor will be decided by a random role of a dice.
- People can place a vote of no confidence on the current major to call for an election. Once at least 2 people have placed a vote of no confidence a new voting will take place to decide who will become the new mayor. During this voting everybody can be picked, except the people who placed the vote of no confidence.

Forum News / Forum Update
« on: February 27, 2011, 01:05:54 PM »
Well some probably already noticed, but as of this morning the forum has been upgraded. I believe we've been down for a small 40min during that time. Right now I'm done doing the final settings so everything should be working now.

I did encounter one minor thing which is that during the update the forum suddenly detected that the server is located in the Netherlands, so it changed the default time according to that knowledge. So you might need to change your local time offset, but apart from that everything went as it should be.

Well I hope you all like the new environment and should you find anything out of the ordinary don't hesitate reporting it. I've tessted all major functionality, but a small setting is easily overlooked :D

Forum News / Major forum update coming soon
« on: February 21, 2011, 03:45:29 PM »
During the time that this forum exists I've been adding a lot of extra functionality to the software. However I won't deny that not all functionally has been implemented the way it should be, making the code on the background really messy and hard to change. So while this forum is still running perfectly, changing/adding extra functional is a long process.

Add to that a set of three themes which all have there own set of pages, which basically means that I have to do every update not once but three times. Those using the Shiny Blue theme might notice, or not, that not all functionality has made it to there theme.

Looking at the newer version of the forums software I noticed that the later version are making use of a much more admin friendlier environment. So with that in mind I started testing out if I can upgrade this forum to a later version.

Right now I've got a working version running on a dummy server and I self am pretty pleased with it. I'm currently working on fully integrating the review/guides section after. After that I'll need to update the main side a bit to work with the upgraded forum.

You can see the working version here: Test forum. Just log in with your current username/password combination.

What will effectively change by upgrading:
In short nothing besides the available themes. I've managed to set over all functionality (or I'm still working on it), but the current themes will be lost as the newer version works with a different kind of themes.

Forum News / Important -- [New login System]
« on: February 13, 2011, 04:22:30 PM »
I've got a decent feeling that the resent logout events where caused by an auto-login bot. These bots will forcefully try to login on existing usernames to steal there account. If you'll have any decent password you hardly need to fear those, but it seems that it specificity causes some trouble on SMF forums. Once a bot fails to login with the username the session of that user will be terminated (meaning the user will be forcefully logged out).

To counter those bots the login will now work with an email/password combination instead of an username/password combination. These email addresses are hidden for non users so a bot will have a much harder time trying to find the email-address of existing users. The email address used for the new login is the email address under which you've registered your account.

Just see this as an extra security measurement against account theft and hopefully this will also stop the resent auto-logout problems.
