News / Square Enix confirms Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD for 2013
« on: March 22, 2013, 11:23:02 PM »

After about a year and a half since its announcement at the Tokyo Game Show 2011, Square Enix has finally decided to come clean with a new batch of Final Fantasy X HD information. For those who aren't already aware, the HD remastering of the 2001 PS2 JRPG will come bundled with its sequel, Final Fantasy X-2, on the PlayStation 3.

PlayStation Vita owners will need to buy both games separately. Specific retail price points have yet to be specified. Both games will come with their own separate trophy sets for eager fans to platinum.

Square Enix has announced in a press release that they are aiming for a worldwide release date sometime this year. With Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMIX releasing here in the Fall, it doesn't sound far fetched that we will be seeing Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD sometime after it.

Quote
“These games are classic fan-favorites, and we hope that new and old Final Fantasy fans can experience the world of Spira and the story of Tidus and Yuna in a brand-new light with these remastered editions,” said Yoshinori Kitase, producer of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2.

While we won't have to wait long to see the HD remaster in motion, as Square Enix has announced that a trailer will be coming on Monday, here are a fresh batch of screenshots to keep you occupied until then:

News / Final Fantasy V heading to the iOS
« on: March 21, 2013, 01:26:46 AM »

Final Fantasy V is on its way to iOS and Android devices in Japan! Well, it's not news that should surprise given the previous four main FFs' appearance on smartphones, and especially given this blatant tease late last year, but hey.

As Famitsu reports, a remake based on the GameBoy Advance version of the 1992 JRPG, with redesigned sprites, comes to iOS by the end of this month, with an Android release around the summertime. It's priced ¥1,800, which is around $19. There's no word yet regards outside of Japan, but previous entries have had same-day worldwide releases. It's not unlikely we'll see FFV hit the App Store by the end of the month.

When approached about a western release, a Square Enix representative told Joystiq, "We don't comment on rumor or speculation."

Final Fantasy X HD on the PlayStation will include a second game as part of the package—its direct sequel Final Fantasy X-2. The news comes via a report in Jump magazine. Both games will be based on their International Edition releases.

While the report mentions that the games will be included together on PlayStation 3, those planning on getting the PlayStation Vita version should take note that both titles will have to be purchased separately. The two games are slated for release sometime this year. A price has not been announced either for the PS3 or Vita versions yet.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX has released this week in Japan in the game's staff credits there is a hint at what will be in the next HD ReMIX. The credits have footage from Kingdom Hearts 2, Birth by Sleep, and Re: Coded all in HD.

This seems to be a teaser for what will be in the next HD collection. It would seem that this Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX will contain the final mix version of Kingdom Hearts 2 and Birth by Sleep. While Re:Coded will get turned into a movie similar to 358/2 Days.

Note that this is not a clear confirmation of whether or not we are getting Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep and Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded in a collection. But the idea is not far-fetched, and Nomura has previously teased it.

When it comes to digital downloads, some games aren't available to download digitally. Eager fans will be happy to know that Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be available to digitally download.

This was confirmed by the game’s director Motomu Toriyama in an interview with Final Fantasy Network.

Both Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2 are not available to download digitally on the PSN or Xbox LIVE.

Square Enix has not announced the release date for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII yet. Although it’s expected to be released later this year in the Fall for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Now we know it will be available to download digitally too.

News / Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMIX heads west this fall
« on: February 25, 2013, 06:53:23 PM »

Square Enix has confirmed that Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix will be released in North America and Europe this autumn.

The game, which was first announced at last year's TGS, is set to bundle together the original Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories, with trophy support for both. The game will also include a theater mode in which cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days can be watched.

While we don't have a firm release date, we do know that the game will be exclusively available on PlayStation 3. Rumors about the game heading to the West have been swirling since the voice actor for Roxas revealed he was back in the recording studio last month.

Uh, if the PS4 is really 8GB GDDR5 of memory, then there is really no need. Sony just overkilled Microsoft.  ::)

If you haven't caught the news, Sony has gone out and announced their next-generation console - the PlayStation 4.

During the 3rd Party section of the conference, Square Enix's Yoshihisa Hashimoto and Shinji Hashimoto temporarily took the stage. Yoshihisa showed off Agni's Philosophy, the same we previously witnessed at E3 2012, running on Sony's new hardware. Afterwards, he left the stage to the other Hashimoto, Square Enix VP and producer of Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

Hashimoto mentioned that a new Final Fantasy title was in the works for the PlayStation 4 and told us to be "very excited for E3" before leaving the stage.

News / Final Fantasy XI: Seekers of Adoulin releasing in late March
« on: December 27, 2012, 11:09:36 PM »

A decade later, MMORPG Final Fantasy XI is still kicking. If you're still playing along, the newest expansion to Final Fantasy XI, Seekers of Adoulin, will be releasing March 26th for North American players and March 27th for European players.

The above trailer focuses on story, which is based around a once forbidden land recently re-opened to "mortal contact."

The expansion will include a virgin continent, additional enemy types, and two new classes: the Rune Fencer and Geomancer.

Seekers of Adoulin will be sold on both PC and Xbox 360. The game will also be released on the PlayStation 2, but it will be for Japan only. You read that right, Sony is still making discs for the PlayStation 2, which will probably make Seekers of Adoulin the last Final Fantasy made for the PlayStation 2.

Fans will pay $29.99 for Seekers of Adoulin alone or $39.99 for the core game and every expansion and content pack to date.

News / Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII - Jump Festa 2013 Trailer
« on: December 26, 2012, 08:44:49 AM »

The debut trailer for the final installment in the Final Fantasy XIII saga has been shown at Jump Festa. The trailer highlights an updated battle system, separate from what was used in both Final Fantasy XIII and it's sequel.

Lightning uses multiple “Styles” in combat, which consist of specific weapons, shields, accessories and abilities. Square Enix are tentatively calling this the “Amazing ATB” system, but that isn’t the final name.

Also shown in the trailer is the central hub, Luxerion. A part of the trailer is narrated by Hope Estheim, and it was recently reported that he'll be returning to guide Lightning via wireless com. According to Hope, the city is built on the people's beliefs in their god. It would seem that a church rules the streets of Luxerion, but what god they worship exactly is unknown, but it is a shady enough for Lightning to investigate.

Lightning Returns will feature a "clock-based" system similar to that seen in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask or Valkyrie Profile. Time will always flow and the world is built around the player's actions. Performing any type of action can either benefit the player or be a major drawback. The player will be given thirteen days to save the world, and the game will end once that limit has been reached, but it is still possible to complete the game before the final day.

As reported by Famitsu, the only point where the flow of time ceases is when a menu is opened. They also mention that certain types of information will be available at specific points in the day.

Square Enix also announced that the Asian version of the game will come with English subtitles. Good news for those looking to import the game from Japan. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will release some time in 2013.

News / Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMIX - Jump Festa 2013 Trailer
« on: December 26, 2012, 08:28:42 AM »

Square Enix's holiday present for Kingdom Hearts fans is the Jump Festa trailer for Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMIX. The trailer sheds some light on some of the changes made to the games, such as the triangle button being used for combos in Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix.

Zero EXP and Combo Master, skills from Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix, have been added to Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix. Zero EXP is specifically designed to give players more of a challenge since you can stay through the game at level one.

Square Enix also improved the controls, added trophies, and changed the English voice acting with subtitles to Japanese voice acting. Being a HD remaster, character models have been updated with high resolution graphics too. Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories also has trophies to collect and HD graphics.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days has HD quality graphics, but it is not a playable game. You can watch Roxas’ story unfold by selecting chapters of each day. Altogether, the videos are over two hours long. Players can also read Roxas’ Diary, a Secret Report, and a new character guide to get a better understanding of the story.

Watching Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days or completing Kingdom Hearts Final Mix or Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories unlocks a bonus for fans.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix is slated for release on March 14, 2013 in Japan.

« on: December 21, 2012, 07:30:34 PM »

Square Enix has set March 14th, 2013 for the Kingdom Hearts series debut on the PlayStation 3. The package includes Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories and HD cutscenes of the DS game, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

It will include trophy support and modified controls to the first Kingdom Hearts, such as camera movements being switched to the right analog stick. Furthermore, completing the game in a timely matter will give the players a reward. What this reward is exactly, Nomura did not elaborate, but he says to not expect another secret movie.

Although a release for Japan has been set, a word on when the west will be receiving this or not has not been said.
