Her real name is apparently Eclair Farron.
Found that out from before the second Baldanders battle. I know that's french for Lightning... I think. I had lots of fun in Oerba today, like getting 3 game overs from those Cie Corpses. Surprising, Baldanders did not give me a game over and I think I was really underleveled.
Blasters are definitely a decent way to get the BREAK gauge to fill up. With my progress, I am generally finished with the game and I have to say that this may not be my favorite Final Fantasy of all time, it is definitely high up there. The ending was beautiful yet the final boss is like Yu Yevon: a joke. The battle before the true final boss and his first form was completely harder and a challenge at least:
Baldanders wouldn't stop Ultima spam and his laser attack hurt more than the last times fighting him.
The first form of Orphan is brutal, I don't know kanji, but I'll describe the attack: Where it flies up in the air and jams it's sword into the ground and knocks the party's HP to critical. There is also another dumb attack where it is an Instant K.O.
Second Form was a joke, all I did was use a team of Blasters to break him and he was down forever. Fang and Lightning rock with the near 99999 and Highwind was the finisher. Flare (?) was the only attack that hurt, and the only one he basically used.
Meh, At least I got the Superstar trophy for defeating him. :P Now that I have the Crystallium leveled up, it's time to head back to Pulse and finish off the board. ^_^
Got to what I'm assuming is the end of chapter 9.
i guess spoilers but
watch out for the boos that's worse then yunalesca and her "lol megadeath"
pretty much about 15 hits of 400.....hits EVERYONE...I don't see a way past this.
nevermind, there was a trick to it haha
EDIT: GAH chapter 10 BOSS!!!!
Played through Chapter 8, 9 and 10, although I'm not quite at the end of that yet since I haven't...
... fought Bahamut.
Chapter 8 was relatively short. Brynhildr took me two tries to defeat. First try, he offed Sazh, and second try I won with about 6 seconds to spare. XD
Chapter 9's enemies were rather annoying but I got plenty of CP from there. Party freedom, yay! Also, I saw a lot of people complaining about Barthandelus. He wasn't hard for me at all. I died the first two times but later I figured out a good tactic for him. Destrudo wasn't as annoying as I heard it is (although apparently, if you continue attacking him when he charges it he will do a staggering motion and it weakens the attack. I did that on all the three times he used it XD). I defeated him like three minutes off the required time though. -__-
Chapter 10's alright. Raines wasn't hard... a little long, since it takes a while to fill up his chain gauge.
Next up, Bahamut. XD
That's indeed true MegaFun. When you keep on attacking while Barthandelus is charging his Destrudo move you can weaken it. I noticed this in the Japanese version, when I attacked him and made him stager (with stager I mean that he moved his head in a "that hurts" motion, not actually breaking him), the attack lost almost half its power :D
Thanks Bram, I took your word for it. ;D
Finished Chapter 11 today.
Maxed out all of the characters' main roles in Stage 8 of the Crystarium before beating Barthandelus.
Barthandelus was freaking easy. ^^ Beat him 5 minutes under required time.
Did the Vanille robot sidequest, made 600k gil from that. Teleported back to Archylte Steppe and trying to upgrade a little before heading back to Cocoon. So far, upgraded Taming Pole to lv. 50 Venus Gospel based on Basskiid's Weapon Guide on GameFAQs.
Gonna 5-star missions 1-28 before heading back to Cocoon.
Wow, you guys are doing a lot of missions early. :o When I was in Chapter 11, I only did the first 2-3 missions and waited to start all the rest at the end of the game. XD I did make the game challenging though, I admit. I died the first time I tried to kill(spoiler below):
Barthandelus Second Time.
Just arrived on Gran Pulse. Anyone know of any good monsters to start grinding on? I want to get my characters up on Crystarium before moving on. Just attempted to foolishly kill Behemoth King, I was close... but Sunder sucks.
You might wanna start doing missions around Archylte Steppe and Yaschas Massif, that should rack up some good CP. After you think you're able enough, you can go to the Northern Highplain area of the Archylte Steppe and near the entrance of the next area there's a Behemoth King fighting a Megistotherian. If you try to fight them you'll always score a pre-emptive strike, use this chance to kill the Behemoth King first. Make sure you continuously juggle him, otherwise he'll go into his bipedal mode and you probably won't stand a chance. Afterwards just kill the Megistotherian... 6.6k CP per fight.
Anyway, I almost finished Chapter 13.
Main roles for Crystarium stage 9 maxed out. ^^ Fang has a Venus Gospel lv*, Lightning has Ultima Weapon lv* and Hope has Urubutsin lv*.
I kinda rushed through this chapter... by the time I got to the end, my parents told me to stop playing already. Murdering Orphan will have to wait for another week >_<
Just started this game yesterday, got to chapter 5 today...
My first "troublemaker-fight" was against Odin in chapter 4. From the beginning I knew what to do (thanks to few Libras), but his combos were quite brutal. Doom-timer at 2000 didn't exactly help much, either.
Gotta love the ravager + ravager-combo during his shield mode.
Reached chapter 6 today.
My god the plant boss of chapter 5 was annoying. I only managed to stagger him once, depleting about 1/3 of his HP. Rest was continuous healing, since his multi-hit attack brought both Lightning and Hope to critical status.
Towards the end, he seemed to attack much more often too. I only had to retry once and that was because I got Hope killed during my first time.
Next time I should probably use Bravery/Faith/Haste-shroud beforehand :D Never used them yet.
Got to chapter 7 today.
Chapter 6 felt quite short and straightforward. I never got the item near scalebeasts without triggering a fight. I didn't have any shrouds to avoid being seen either. Plus scalebeasts weren't really worth fighting.
Main bosses of the chapter were very easy; debuffs were quickly cured by Esuna. Beat them in first try.

Poison is really effective in Chapter 6.
Depending on what treasures you skipped, you didn't miss much though. Only the last two that have a resist Deprotect and a Resist Water ring are important IMO.
Not much progress here.. still in chapter 7.
Those flying machines, which use Gatling Gun, are so fun to fight. Nothing, which Steelguard cannot handle tho. Snow got 1400+ HP, while Hope only has 700. Still, can't be bothered to grind at this point.
Easy 5 star rating fights, tho :D
Didn't play too much today.. reached chapter 8.
Main boss of the chapter 7 was not tough, as long as I used Synergist/Saboteur/Medic frequently to keep Protect and Shell up. Defeated all smaller parts first, then I noticed that boss' HP went from 400 000 to 70 000 instantly.. didn't really know why, but I can't complain.
6 minutes of fighting and 5 star rating. Hurrah!
Beat the game today.
Orphan's forms were actually pretty easy and his first form never insta-KO'd me again. I got the Superstar trophy on the first try.
Then I spent an hour trying to get that goddamned Growth Egg from the Neochu. It took ages for Death to work and the first two times it actually did, I died. -__- Finally got it on the third successful Death though.
Right now I've been doing some missions. I have missions 1-35 five-starred and doing Titan's trials now. I want to develop more on the Crystarium but I've heard that if you're overpowered it'll be harder to get 5 stars later. :s Is this true, or should I really only worry about that later?
...just a question of curiosity...and it is a spoiler question...but just what is with Vanille? I am at the The Gapra Whitewood...and Vanille is narrating about secrets...she seems like she is hiding something...is she a Cocoon l'Cie or what? and why is she commenting on Lightning's journey when she is clearly with Sazh...
This has me confused, but very interested...
...just a question of curiosity...and it is a spoiler question...but just what is with Vanille? I am at the
I won't go tell all the details, but
She's actually from Grand Pulse when it was at war with Cocoon that happened a few decency back. Back then she was chosen as a L'Cie with the focus to destroy cocoon. Right now she has awaken from here crystal sleep with a new focus.
She also has a history with Sazh, but you'll figure that one out during Chapter 8 as I'm not going to spoil that part. Though at least this will explain why she is always acting weird when its about Grand Pulse.

Yes and No. Its has to do with the ranking mechanism. To get a five star you must finish with more than 13.000 points. The stating points are 10.000 and these will be increased/decreased for every second you finish the monsters sooner than the recommend time. The points you'll get for each second are noted in the battle results.
However the time in which you are expected to defeat the monster is linked to your current stats. The higher your stats the faster you are expected to defeat the monsters. It is still possible to get a 5 star when you've got high stats, but its definitely easier if you are still weak.
Thanks bram....I am at the end of chapter five, and the story is getting really intense...and ironic...with the whole NORA and Hope's mother being named Nora...The whole Thirteen Day thing, Serah and Lightning and Snow...(I am still worried about him btw...locked away with Fang, an underling of Cid...
I can't wait to beat the plant robot demon so I can play as Sazh again...I love his character :P and i bet he has like 10,000CP to spend, because I power lvl'd at the beginning of chapter five so I could max the Chrystarium for Hope and Lightning at this point :P
Reached chapter 9 today...
First boss of the chapter 8 was great way to get 5 Zergs near save point to respawn fast. With less than 1 minute per battle, 647 CP per fight, I thought it was pretty great spot to grind. However, I wanted to challenge myself and continued after unlocking few 1000 CP nodes.
Boss itself wasn't much special. Only annoying attack was Railgun, which did about 700 damage. Luckily I didn't have to witness it more than once :P
Eidolon-battle was easiest one so far. Had over 1000 left in timer, when I got the gestalt gauge full.
Chapter 9, epicness. :) I am at the part where you can finally change party members, and am now grinding for the
Party consists of Lightning, Fang and Hope at the moment.
if you need any tips for that:
have Lightning as main and always medic. just keep spamming cure (cura if you have it yet) and your other two as ravager and commando.
switch to a rav/com/com paradigm (rav so lightning stays at back away from elemental spamga) for the first head, maybe two. For the other two keep lightning at the back. when he charges Destrudo just go rav/com/com or com/com/com and get him to flinch to survive it.
Ahh, finally reached chapter 10. It felt a lot longer than usual, because battles were taking so much more time. I had actually quite a bit trouble with regular enemies.
Main boss of the chapter, on the other hand... it didn't feel challenging. I had Bravery/Faith/Haste-shroud used beforehand, tossed Librascope and defeated lesser targets in no time.
I was probably slow as hell, since I took 13 min to beat it, but it wasn't a hard fight. Sure Destrudo was damaging, but it never brought any characters (used Lightning, Hope and Fang) to critical status...
Easy boss, but lengthy.
Beat Barthandelus in Chapter 9. I found it to be pretty easy. I changed my team to Lightning, Sazh and Hope. Sazh buffed up Lightning w/ Bravery so I got rid of armor supports quickly with Blitz. Then went all out on Barthandelus with a COM x2 and RAV paradigm. I switched to a MED x2 and COM paradigm when I need health, and Sazh was a Commando to keep the Stagger gauge from falling. I also used a COM, RAV and SYN paradigm. Hope was buffing the party up with Protect + Shell so when he uses that "Smile" attack and "Bapitsm in Ruin", I didn't take much damage. When he was going to use Destrudo, I went all out and depending on my health, switched to a Medic Paradigm.
It was a rinse and repeat method that worked and got me 5 stars as well. :D
Now in Chapter 10 where the music is awesome! :o :o <3
Yahoo, chapter 11 now.. some regular monsters were more than annoying in chapter 10, I wonder what kind of fun awaits me in this one :D
Cid wasn't overly hard and took me only one retry, but I was extremely cautious all the time. His dispelga-type attack was very annoying, plus he always went to guard mode halfway after being staggered >_>
Bahamut on the other hand took me total of two retries :P Third time was actually quite easy, thanks to continuous Provoke + Mediguard-combo with two medics. Still, his combos were brutal from time to time.
I'm currently being drawn away by SDGO (Korean online game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEH2KORKgLY) and thus I haven't progressed very far. though I HAVE perused the Strategy guide and facepalmed when i read that
the chocobo always looks in the direction of the treasure
>.<
Necessary equipment:
Speed Sash x3
Energy Sash x1 (3 if you don't have Champion's Badge or Survivalist's Catalog)
Champion's Badge
Survivalist Catalog
Equip any two to each member of a Cerberus (COM/COM/COM) party. This creates the Random: Instant Chain synthesised ability. If after two rounds of attacks the Cactus isn't staggered then just retry.
Tell him that it sounds much more impressive if he posts it here himself :P
It is rather impressive indeed. Though no offence but in 90% of the causes a good boost of shrouds will help more than the gold watch.
Miss me already? :P
Ally, the big flying 'bug'...
... is the boss of the tower :P the fal'Cie Dahaka.
Proceeced in the story all way to Oerba today.
Dahaka was more annoying than hard. Very easy to stagger, but unfortunately couldn't beat him in one stagger. His debuff-spam and attacks after that was just a nuisance. Luckily I could beat him in just two staggers.
So far first 26 missions done (even though 5 of them were mandatory... :P)
Main boss of the chapter 11 defeated, along with missions 1 - 33 and 56 (excluding 27) beaten.
Barthandelus was MUCH easier than Dahaka. Unfortunately I only got 4 stars... target time was 11 minutes, I defeated him in 8. No more multiple targets and no Destrudo either... bah. I should have set battle speed to normal :D
What's with Juggernaut's target time, anyway? I thought it would be more than 2 minutes. Even though I defeated it in 1 stagger, it took me 2:35, due to debuffing him for quicker fight. No stars :( I guess I redo it at some point.
Anyway, I guess I should be fine for chapter 12 now... I probably should start getting few Sprint Shoes.
Actually, I have a question about Sephirosch: (Yaag Rosch)
Wasn't he shot and killed by another PSICOM officer in this chapter? How come he returns at the end of Ch. 9 + Chapter 12?
Yarr, finished the game as well. Got the Superstar-trophy in the process.
It might be just me, but I found every boss in chapter 13, including all three "final battles", very easy. I had no need to retry them... Seriously, I had more trouble against chapter 5 boss than against Orphan's first form :P
Now to the post game-content.. I should start by getting Growth Egg ASAP. I also got final accessory slot for everyone... still about 650k - 750k CP to waste :P
The only way to gain Gil is through treasure chests and selling equipments/accessories and the loot you gain after battles. Selling your Equipment/Accessories is not a good idea, because you will have to find some way to obtain them again in order to get the Treasure Hunter trophy/achievement. Of course, I could be wrong and all you have to do is get your hands on them.
WEAPONS AND ACCESSORIES ARE CUMULATIVE EVEN WHEN SOLD FOR TREASURE HUNTER
I do not like how they decided to kill Jihl Nabaat. I was so ready to fight that woman and beat her down to hell. :P
Chapter 10 where I'm at a loss on who to pick for my final party. All of the characters are essentially good in battle and I just hate switching them out for another because I can't remember the paradigms I originally set to save my life.
Right now, I have a team of Vanille, Snow and Hope and in the middle of CP training on Pulsework Soldiers.
I am now in Taejin's tower, a bit hard =X
too bad that Vanille never get's to say Sorry to Serah
Chapter 8 (the shortest chapter ever?) changed my thoughts about Vanille just a little bit. I finished Chapter 8 in about one hour minus cutscenes compared to the 6 hours it took me to finish Chapter 7. I'm on Chapter 9 now on board the Palamecia on a rescue mission to save Sazh and Vanille.
Kinda new right away that Sazh wasn't dead in the first place. Why would Square have us fight his Eidolon Brynhildr and then out of the blue, kill him off. They kind of ruined the surprise right there. ::)
Wow... Square made so many references the last few chapters. Nautilus was an airship in FF3, Palumpolum were the name of the twins in FF4 and now, the Palamecia is a reference to FF2. What else is there. :P
made it to archlite step and got up to long gui just don't know how to move it
Just change the weather to the right spot. Long Gui will vanish, but the dragon behind it will stay.
Still around chapter 4 myself, don't quite get what to do next. English version still has to arrive, eta is somewhere in the upcomming week ;D
FFXIII
As my semester finally ended, I decided to actually get around to playing the whole game (previously, I had an incomplete file at ~ch 5 and had seen bits and pieces past that)
So today I got from the beginning of Palomporum to just past the part where Hope was just about to kill Snow, the guy who had been taking hits and keeping him alive for the last hour and a half or so of gameplay, not to mention the big rescue scene ::) Way to derp Hope, kill the guy who saved you for failing to protect someone else, great thinking.
I know it's not the end of the game or nothin, but I'm not a big fan of Hope right now... or Lightning, who seems to think hitting her teammates all the time is the best idea ever.
over the last few days
beat chapter 8 (lost a couple times due to doom on Sazh's eidolon battle) and beat the very long chapter 9 though i have to wonder
if i missed something on the primearch battle, because I had a 20 minute battle time and the target was like 10:30 :P was I supposed to be able to stop his destroyer attack? because I just Snow sentried through it. ::)

You may be over-levelled or have over-powered weapons. But the main thing about Destrudo is the chain gauge is reset whenever it's used so it's a matter of timing your staggers. Also, using a Librascope at the very start of the battle can make matters far easier.
It's been quite a while, so I could be wrong, but I think Missions 62 and 64 make use of Doom.
Not to mention the final boss. Although it's really not that difficult.
