Title: Game of Thrones
Post by: ElliotMajor on June 14, 2011, 12:39:46 AM
Anyone watching it or read the book series?

Watched the first couple of episodes and thought it was alright  so I decided to start reading the books which have so far surpassed my expectations. Only halfway through the first book (wish I had time to read) but it's brilliant so far.

I'm watching the show at the moment and have to say that it's absolutely fantastic. The scale they manage to pack into each forty minute episode is astonishing. The one thing I will say is not having a clear cut hero or villain is sometimes a little disconcerting. The only characters so far who seem to be purely innocent and nice are little Arya and Brandon.

I agree on the Arya & Brandon part. One character I do like "both in the book and series" is Jon Snow. I can't explain why, and he's not even a main character. I'm also liking Khal Drogo's character progression it's subtle but his outlook does seem to change somewhat.

Jon Snow's morals do seem the most righteous of the adults in the story. As for Khal Drogo, I have to agree with you completely.

One thing I don't think the show portrays well is the characters ages for example in the books:

Jon Snow: 14 close to 15
Robb Stark: 15

Whereas in the shows they look much older around they're 20's. But in the book Jon Snow still had steadfast morals and a high maturity for his age. Which makes sense considering as a *Bleep* he is forced to grow up if just to be hard enough to ignore the jibes and comments thrown his way

Rob is 15? 'o.O They look early 20's to me.

Rob is 15? 'o.O They look early 20's to me.

The scenes they have to be part of sometimes necessitate older actors and actresses. They are younger in the books.

I apologize for that ::)

Danerys and Tyrion are my favourite characters.

Daenerys is my favorite woman so far. Aside from Arya, but she is a girl. :P

That's Jon Snow. And Tyrion Lannister. And Jeoffrey. And a bunch of other characters...

I haven't watched enough (clearly) but so far they're probably the children, esp. Arya and Bran. Adult-wise Tyrion seems like the most honest of the Lannisters.

Is Game of Thrones worth watching?
Title: Re: Game of Thrones
Post by: rsslayersr on April 10, 2013, 07:37:35 AM
I would say, yes. Just be sure you're ready for everything of the show. To the complicated politics between several kingdoms and the explicit scenes from, let's say, brothels.
Title: Re: Game of Thrones
Post by: Sixty on April 10, 2013, 11:54:36 AM
there are a few scenes in the Brothels, its more politics then anything else. I am also reading the books and i hope that in season 3 there are more battles.

Anyway if you like all the above i would say go watch it, the intro song alone is great.

Nudity once an episode is mostly too much for some people. It's really fun to see some of the older folks react to those scenes :P

I'm not holding up well at all after seeing that. Its expected if you read the books but... bleh, that's the last time I ever get attached to characters in Game of Thrones.  :'(

The Frey's need to die. A horrible death. Multiple times. And an entire episode needs to be dedicated to it. PLEASE.

Title: Re: Game of Thrones
Post by: Chaos on June 12, 2013, 12:25:56 AM
There was like 3-4 good episodes, the rest was just uninteresting. I was waiting for something to happen the whole season and pretty much nothing happened (except episode 9).
Title: Re: Game of Thrones
Post by: wee187 on June 23, 2013, 07:18:26 AM
I feel like a lot happened, but it was all buildup. The season was the first half of book three, so I'm not really surprised that Season 3 felt like half a season. In fact I kind of expected it. There's a lot that went on behind the scenes that you don't pay attention to the first time through, but I feel like everything will be coming to the forefront next season, which is the second half of Book 3.
Title: Re: Game of Thrones
Post by: YiazmatSlayer on July 12, 2013, 07:09:13 PM
Bear in mind book three paid attention to only certain characters in the first part, and then the rest of the characters in part two. That's not what the series has done at all. I'm beginning to wonder if it's just going to spiral off from the books.
