Title: FFTogethers summer marathon 2014
Post by: Da_Cloud on March 25, 2014, 03:15:25 PM
Okay I'll think you guys know the drill by now. As every year, this year we'll also be trying to hold hour annual marathon event. And as usual we'll be trying to find as many people as possible to help out.

First of all let us again start of with trying to figure out who wants to help out and which games people are interested in. If you can't help out but like to see a particular game post it as well, might always give an idea to the rest.

The dates aren't set yet, but they will most likely be around the summer holiday again. I'll just have to figure out the best working dates for us all ;)

Like the last 2 years I'll be hoping we can do something like a 3 tier "speedrun" again. So far I've personally finished both second and first once, so despite having the feeling that this year is going to be my downfall it will most likely be good fun :P

i suggest that during the marathon FFX HD will be streamed. many already know it so it can be used as an speedrun race, and its a new version so its fresh. It might be fun to stream some FFXIV as well.

also as usual ill stream, i just don't know what exactly yet.

Well the record for FFX is a good 10 and a half hours and, my when I'm doing a speedy run I clock in at around roughly ~20 hours (this time is done by basically skipping the shippable cut scenes and never stop to grind stuff, but with abusing rikku for the last few fights).

So yea know what kind of sit you sign up for with that game :P

I'm participating, but haven't decided what game I will play.

Btw. I've also finished both first and second once. :P

Well if its gonna be FFX I've got high hopes to do really good. If there is one FF that I can play pretty well its FFX. But its only worth if the other people also know the game decent enough, otherwise the game is to long to keep it "interesting".

Dirge of Cerberus would also be a decent candidate for a 3-way run.

I think FFX is too long. And I suck at it, too. :P Not a huge fan of Dirge of Cerberus, but we can do that one if no one has a better idea.

Well optimistaclly speaking we would need 2 slots of 9 hours to do the FFX run. A DoC run would probably be just 1 slot of 9 hours ? (been a bit long since I last played that game). Out of my head I wouldn't no other good games that we can do in it though.

well it would be better with DoC to watch since FFX has so many bad scenes

you mean so many loveable scenes, FFX has no bad scenes.

There was a lot of bad scenes that you like for odd reasons

My favorite scene, so stop basing it guys. Especially in this topic.

So to get back on topic, if we are going to implement the FF7 DOC 3 way speedrun, are we going to add some rules as in not playing it till the marathon or anything else.
Also i am thinking of playing Rogue Galaxy, definitely been a while since i have done that game. But going to play it again in the next couple of weeks to see how it will fair for the marathon.

We'll are we going with DoC to begin with? Or does someone have an better idea?

Also my guess would be that Rogue Galaxy is going to take way to long to finish. Been a long time since I've done that game, but all I can remember from it was a long long grid-fest in between each boss fight.

thats why i am going to play that game again this week, it might be a game for the few days that we are together. i know Ronald also played and finished that game.

I would like Rogue Galaxy, it's not so much a grind-fest as it's long distances between points in the game, so I see Bram's point. Later on you can kind of cheese the fights (Simon murders everything), but there's still a lot of travelling.

thats why i said to play it as a group.

Its been a long time, but the major drawback is the fact that the final boss battle has a different stage for each character in the game. So you can't really cheese your way through the game without getting a though time during the final boss battle.

Feel free to try a playthrough to test it out, but I can't feel but think that this game isn't made to be played in these kind of events.

Also if its going to be DoC I'd say we might have more fun if we allow some training beforehand. We do need to agree on the difficulty settings and normal settings (mainly the target management system).

Personally i play with manual targeting and with adjusted camera speed. For the marathon speedrun i suggest semi auto and play on normal or easy, for a challenge we can go hard mode.

We should avoid Hard Mode. Even Normal might be too hard (can't even remember what difficulties there were). Remember Kingdom Hearts II? Even Standard Mode was pretty challenging for a speed run.

And I think we should train beforehand. I've beat the game only once and that was over 5 years ago.

for kingdom hearts 2 standard is only hard for certain bosses for speedruns and DoC doesn't matter that much with speedruns since damage depends on where you hit

yeah and thats why we need to decide if we go full manual, semi auto or automatic with the aiming.

As usual, I am avaliable to stream as well once i get everything set up again.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
The Last Remnant(maybe)
Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift
Pokemon White 2
Final Fantasy V
Pokemon Conquest
Yugioh GX Tag Force 3(at elast a few characters)
Phantasy Star Online 2(depends if its still running by then)

Your not the only one who hasn't played that game in a while :D

But yea then I'd say we play it on normal mode with the aim system on semi automatic, which would be the default settings if I remember correctly. Apart from maybe a few "hard" moments in the game these settings should be more than fine, and we don't want to make it to easy I'd guess :P

Compared to the other 2 games we've done this game should be the shortest of them all, so we might make it to the end this year :P

It seems my personal summer holiday will be in the week of the 4th of August.

Hey people, do you need more streamers for the marathon? I was thinking about playing Bayonetta. Depending on the timeslot I could do either a normal playthrough, or a speedrun (speedrun takes about 3 hours).

Not in the form of an organised event. Had way to many other stuff on my head to organize it.
