Actually, "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead" is some book, too. Those are also two characters in Shakespeare's Hamlet.

This made my day. There's nothing like finding out that Shakespeare just killed your LV 99 party with a trap. Most epic reference to Shakespeare ever.

I think that it's impossible that it could be a Vagrant Story reference. Final Fantasy XII comes way before Vagrant Story in the Ivalician Timeline and just putting that there would seem odd, although it could be canon.
