That's cool, but it was the system of using them that bothered me, not getting them. Having them wander around instead of doing exactly what you tell them seems just a bit strange. "I summon you, Belias! Now, walk around me in a little circle or maybe go fight that thing over there!"

Push the button. That's why it's there. If it wasn't meant to be pushed, it wouldn't be a button.

Apparently, also in the Battle System, and unlike FFXII or the other FF's, you can only control one character at a time. The 'party leader'. I don't know how the other's act, but I'm guessing just by AI.

ehem. yep. sentinel is right. you can only control the party leader, which i'm speculating the game chooses for several intervals during gameplay to give it more of a movie feel.

but, the worse part about that is that if your party leader dies, its game over. ?!?!!?!?!?!?!?! lol. don't expect to see Phoenix Downs, I guess.

:o I sure hope this is one of those things that sound ridiculously complicated in writing but are actually really easy to get into (like Jobs in FFV or Materia or GF) when you try it out in person.

Cause a clunky battle system could ruin FFXIII. :-\

I don't find FFXIII's battle system confusing at all.  :D It takes a bit of understanding, they use the simple command menu, you are able to combine moves (Example: Attack, Fire, Ice commands). As you level up, you gain more AP.  :D

Thats right.  :) Each action expands 1 AP to use.(actually I'm not sure if it DOES cost 1 AP, some attacks may cost more, I think)

You'll have to wait until the ATB gauge is full till you perform the action I believe.
Pretty much it could go like this:

Quote from: Wikipedia- Gameplay
Multiple commands can be stacked into slots per turn and released at the same time to form a combo. The number of command slots increases as the characters grow in strength. These commands include series staples such as Attack, Fire, Blizzard and Cure, as well as new ones such as Launch, which sends the enemy up in the air and allows the character to perform mid-air combos on the opponent; however, it can be difficult to use on large enemies. The difference between XIII's battle system and the ATB gauge is that these commands can still be placed in the slots even though the bar has run out and the actions will be executed once the required slots are filled up. This however affect the chain combo hits as the combo has been interrupted. The game does not make use of MP but introduces "cost points" for each command, which determine how many times the commands can be used per turn.

In other words, you can essentially assign what your character will be doing long before he or she actually CAN do it.

To me, the Wikipedia statement means this, in lames terms:

Lightning has 10 AP and her ATB gauge is fully charged; this is the first turn of the battle with the battle speed setup selected as "Wait", meaning the battle will wait until the player takes his/her turn to do anything.

Lightning has 4 Command Slots, but can only currently use 3 commands per turn.

She selects Attack, Fire, Fire, and Launch.
This turn she performs Attack, Fire, and Fire again.

Her next turn comes around, she selects two more moves (Fire and Blizzard)
On this turn she performs Launch, Fire, and Blizzard. Her ATB is currently empty, she has 4 AP remaining.

Its not hard to understand but we need the game so we can actually test it out which is not possible yet..

I couldn't try it anyway since my parents just bought me a new PS2..

I wonder if the battle system will be same for Versus and Agito?

No, Agito's system is very similar to FFXII.

Versus will more likely be more similar to Kingdom Hearts.

And I was so right about my queuing idea. ;D In the battle menu, actually on the top it says "select next option to queue" XD yay I love being right!

I think all battles in FFXIII aren't like FF12. But that doesn't mean its random battles either. You encounter foes on the battle field and by touching them, you engage battle.

I guess it would be similar to Star Ocean or Kingdom Hearts Chain Of Memories.

That's basically from what I've read from rumors.

Why speculate about it? Doesn't anyone enjoy the mystery and surprise anymore? I'm just going to watch trailers and wait the rest of the time.

Well guys, I think I completely got the battle system of FFXIII down. As said, it is "queuing". Since I can't read Japanese at all, I don't know the stats after battle. But, I think you can higher stats if you manage to finish the battle quicker, and you are ranked based on how fast it went I believe.

There's a "Optima Change" (Paradom Shift in English) where I think you can change party leaders, and change classes. Example: Change Lightning from a attacker to a healer. I still have yet to figure out how in the world you summon eidolons.
