Higurashi Daybreak Kai
« on: February 06, 2010, 04:30:21 AM »
Anyone play Higurashi Daybreak Kai?  I'm pretty good (but not extremely good) at it.  I main Mion, Shion, Rena and Akasaka.

It's a doujin game based on the horror/drama series Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni and Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai.  The graphics are bright and upbeat (as the series is, or until the freaky crap starts happening), the gameplay is somewhat like...

...

Magical Battle Arena/That New Nanoha Game/Gundam VS/Dynasty Warriors (sorta)

There's a bunch of characters, each with 2 to 3 (if you have the expansion) movesets, with unique functionality.

For example - my mains:
Pistol Mion -
Melee - Martial Arts
Black Charge - Pistol Shots
Yellow Charge - Rocket Launcher
Red Charge - Minigun

Very fast aerial movement, decent running speed, powerful long ranged attacks, short physical strikes, but with low damage.  Special skill - Counter Throw.  Excels in harassing melee characters with little ranged options, or beating the living dogcrap out of ranged characters with bad melee.

Knife Shion -
Melee - Knife slashes, flipkicks, headbutt
Black Charge - Shockwave slash
Yellow Charge - Taser Yoyo
Red Charge - Spiral Cut

Extremely fast, whether on the ground or soaring though the air.  Powerful combos, but weak single strikes.  Very low defense.  No special skills, but red charge does massive damage.  Yellow charge is versatile.  Excels at hit and run.

Cleaver Rena -
Melee - Her mother****ing cleaver (it's scary :D)
Black Charge - Cleaver toss
Yellow Charge - Grenade
Red Charge - Twin cyclone cleavers

Very well balanced.  Fast, but low stamina.  Good defense, good attack, decent reach.  Special skill - HAUHAUHAUHAU!! punch.  Special skill does amazing damage, Red charge does amazing damage.  Special is hard to hit with.

Hadoken Akasaka -
Melee - Martial arts
Black Charge - HADOUKEN!
Yellow Charge - HADOUKEN! (with more power)
Red Charge - SUPER HADOUKEN! (it bounces after it hits!!)

Similar to Rena.  Sacrifices speed for stamina and durability, and damage and reach for better projectile attacks.  Special skill -> Shinryuken (he's essentially a Ryu ripoff with this weapon).  Also- with Friendship Hypermode, his yellow and black charges light the enemy on fire.

Yeah.  Japanese only, but once you play it enough, you tend to figure things out.

K, i saw that there is a pc version, isn't it possible to translate the pc version with a special program? That would make it for me more attrictive to play since my Japanese isn't that good.

I think there's people working on a translation patch, but I'm not sure where to get it or how far it's been done.
