That guide came about from the desire to get the Zodiac Spear from out of the Henne mines, a 1 in 1,000 chance, but was eventually extended to cover getting the rare item from all chests in combat areas throughout the game. From this was born the Cure List which went on to achieve more than just getting rare items from chests. With the new FFXII: The Zodiac Age there have been some changes to the RNG and the old guide I produced isn't relevant here. Those who have access to apps, spreadsheets and/or whatever can still manipulate the RNG but there are those who struggle with that. So, with that in mind, I set about cracking the chests in Cerobi Steppe and producing a guide which is simple to follow and anyone can use it. The following guide is what I have come up with - I guess you could call it an RNG Manipulation Guide for Dummies (like me) who can't be arsed with a million computer progams running at once. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ General Info ------------ In the original guide getting the item was what it was all about but lots had trouble spawning the chests so in this new guide, not only will I show you how to get the item, I'll also show you how to spawn the chest you require. To do this you're going to need to have a save at the early part of a new game with Reks alone at the blue save crystal in Nalbina. I guess many of you know about this as it was shown on Youtube in a 100% Seitengrate video made by a guy known on there as LetsGetPitted. If you watch that video which I'll link below you'll see how to do it and you'll also see why you need to do it. It's to put yourself at a part of the RNG which will spawn the chest(s) you require. So before you read any more of this guide I suggest you do that now and from now on I will assume that you have done it AND you understand it. It's not rocket science so you should be able to grasp it easily. LetsGetPitted's Youtube Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VpFs1O8s9I What I'm going to do in this guide is cover each area of Cerobi Steppe indiv- idually, show you how to spawn the chest you want and how to get the rare item. In some situations you'll actually be able to get TWO rare items in the same attempt, which is nice if you want two items from the same area though the second one will not work on all chests. If you have a chest where the chance of getting gil is high (over 50%) you'll only get 100 gil, not the item. In that case you'll have to repeat the process to get the item you want. To avoid that just check the gil percentage of the chests you want to open and if it's over 50% for one of them just open that chest first. What makes this guide nice and simple is you don't have to worry about what the stats are for the person who will cast cure. The way I have done this makes that irrelevant so you can cast cure with anyone who is able to and at any time in the game, even if their stats have risen since the last time you made an attempt. So, with all this out of the way, let's get on with the nitty-gritty of the guide. =============================================================================== ========= THE GUIDE ========= --------------- Spawning Chests --------------- The first thing you must make sure you have done is to have an auto save with your main file with the characters in the area you want them in. Take note of what it says in the relevant section. If it says to enter the area from a specific point of entry you MUST do this. Funnily enough, by changing your point of entry to the area, you change which chests spawn. Weird but true, so make sure you take note of where your party should be when you make that last auto save file before beginning with your attempt. Each area list will have the name of the area followed by where you should enter from. To spawn the chest you want just take a look at the start of each section where you will see a list of cure values from Reks in Nalbina. There will be 3 values and you will find them in a row when casting cure with Reks. Once you see those 3 values you quit to title page and load your save file in from the autosave. So you begin this by loading in your save file with Reks. This MUST be done from either a cold start of the PS4 or by closing the application of the file you've been using whether it be Netflix or something similar or FF12. To close the application press the PS button, press the Options button and then Close Application. This will start the game in the same condition as a cold PS4 start and set you around the beginning of the RNG list. This is VERY important. Before you start take note of this list of early cure values for Reks. It'll help you see where you are when you start casting cure. It's only a short list and it may not start right at the beginning of the RNG but it'll be good enough for what you want it for: ---------------- Reks Cure Values ---------------- 86 87 96 94 86 93 96 90 97 90 92 96 87 93 92 88 94 97 87 88 97 90 92 87 94 94 You won't need any more than this and they're really only for your reference so you can see where you are. When you have done this, load your Reks file and then look at the list of Cure Values for the area and then the chests that are associated with those values. Let me give you a made up example: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Example Cerobi Steppe - South Liavell Hills - Enter from Balfonheim Port Cure Values: 99 83 84 Spawns chests: 2 5 8 Chests contain: Arc Scale, Perseus Bow, Gaia Gear respectively. You want the Perseus Bow so this is what you must do: Start casting Cure with Reks. He can only cast it 5 times before running out of MP but if he does run out just touch the save crystal to replenish it. This action will NOT affect the RNG. Now keep an eye on the values of his cures. When you see the numbers 99, 83, and 84 appear consecutively stop casting cure and quit the game by resetting to the Title Screen. To do this you press Options and Square. Do NOT close the application! You want a soft reset so that you maintain your position in the RNG. Closing the application resets the RNG to the start again. After getting the Title Screen load in your file from the auto save and follow the instructions concerning how to get the item and, if applicable, the second item too. If there are enemies around you can use Niho + PD to get rid of them and you can also pick up the loot. Neither of these actions will affect the RNG. However, if you get attacked, stand on a trap, cast a magic spell, use a tech, use an ether - all of these WILL affect the RNG and the instructions given for getting the item will be void and you'll have to start again. So when moving around to get to the chest you want, keep the battle speed at Slow (can be found in the Config Menu) because items are instant and this will give you extra time to act before the monster can react to you. If you're confident about moving around and being able to stop your hitting and cure casting actions without any problems, feel free to use the turbo. It won't affect the RNG. Once you have your items(s) just cross a zone line to make an updated auto save file or, if you want a proper save, head to a save crystal. Then if you want more items elsewhere, head to the area you want (don't forget to enter from where it says you should), close the application, and then rinse and repeat until you have all the rare items you want. Remember to keep an eye on your cure-caster's MP if you don't use a save crystal; using ethers moves the RNG on. I would also recommend entering from 2 zones away so that there are no monsters hanging around the zone line. The last thing you want is to get your ass chewed the moment you enter a zone, screwing the RNG position before you even start. NB: I recommend approaching all monsters from behind when using Niho + PD. Some of them are damned fast and if they get an attack in then you're screwed where the RNG is concerned and you'll have to restart. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's it. That's all there is to it. It really is as simple as all that. All you need now is a list of all the areas in Cerobi Steppe and instructions on how to spawn the chests and what to do when you've got them. All of that is below this text. Just look at the instructions, apply the principles laid out in the above example and you'll get the rare item(s). -------------- Very Important -------------- Just one thing to add: when the instructions tell you to hit yourself X amount of times, any combos count as ONE hit. So, for example, if you get Hit 1, Hit 2, Hit 3, Hit 4, and then a 4 Hit Combo, just count the combo as Hit 5. Ignore how many extra hits there are as I've take all that into account. If you want to give me any feedback concerning this guide or even suggest ways to improve it, feel free to contact me at ff12grandmaster@yahoo.co.uk and title the email 'Zodiac Age RNG Guide Feedback' or something similar. Be assured that all will be read though I may not reply unless I consider it important to do so. Good luck around Cerobi Steppe and happy chest emptying! =============================================================================== -------------------------- Read This Before You Start -------------------------- --------------- Troubleshooting --------------- 1. First of all I am not perfect and I make errors. If you come to a part and you can't get it right, it might be my fault. Before you start screaming on the forum that I'm a useless piece of shit that doesn't know what he's doing, send me an email (ff12grandmaster@yahoo.co.uk) and I'll take a look and see if it's my fault. Include a description of what's wrong so I can make sure YOU are doing it right 2. Character Level Ups. If your character levels up whilst you are making your way to a chest using Niho + PD you will have to reset. The level up inc- ludes randomising the amount of HP and MP that is raised so it will move the RNG. Stick the Niho on a character who has a long way to go to level up. 3. North Liavell Hills and The Terraced Bank. If it's raining you MUST reset! The Undin Entite spawns (affects the chest spawning) and its constant buffing moves the RNG. 4. The Terraced Bank. If the SeeQ Explorer is there you should reset again as he battles monsters and you can see the damage he does and takes. This will obviously move the RNG just like it would if you took damage. 5. There are some 100% Item chests that spawn throughout Cerobi Steppe. You must get these chests before you start as some aren't 100% spawn even if the item IS 100%. This will affect the RNG so get them all first. a) The Claymore in South Liavell Hills, chest 1 near the Balfonheim Port entrance. b) Cleanse in The Terraced Bank, chest 36 right next to chest 35 by a rock and a trap in the middle of the map. c) Telekinesis in Old Elanise Road, chest 101 right in front of the exit To Tchita Uplands 6. Phon Coast Hunt Club. You MUST get rid of Bluesang by the Windmills in Crossfield and Aspidochelon by the southernmost bridge in Feddik River. To be honest, it doesn't appear that Bluesang has an effect on the RNG so I can't be sure if it's necessary to remove him; better safe than sorry though. However, Aspidochelon DOES screw the RNG up. Get rid of them both. 7. Buffs. Some buffs affect the RNG when you have them on and they definitely affect it when you cast them. My advice is don't use any at all. Even Libra had an effect in some places whilst I was testing. ============================================================================== ============================================================================== ==================================== Cerobi Steppe Areas and Instructions ==================================== All the chests are covered at least once in the cure values listed for each area. I know that there are many possible combinations to get different chests to spawn but you should use the ones I have stated or you may find yourself at a different point in the RNG and the instructions I give may not work. Needless to say, all chests require the opener to have the Diamond Armlet equipped to get the rare item. NOTE: The chest numbers correspond to the numbers that are shown in Split Infinity's Differences Guide on GameFAQs which is found here: https://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/939426-final-fantasy-xii-international-zodiac- job-system/faqs/49691 For a map of these locations with the chest numbers on them you can look at ff12.ffsky.cn where the numbers are shown on the map; however, the chest details are in Japanese (or Chinese?) so I recommend using both in conjunc- tion with each other.
