I made this guide based off another guide hosted on GameFAQs, because I wanted to introduce an alternative to the augment guides/FAQs already introduced to the website. I was given temporary permission to host my alternative in one of the augment guides on GameFAQs, which has now been stickied in the Final Fantasy IV boards there. Initially, there was a flaw which pointed out a critical error which made my alternative void, but I've fixed it after the user pointed it out. The fix was made, and the guide sat there for a while before I deleted it because I wanted to post my Augment Guide/FAQ exclusively on Final Fantasy Together, a growing fansite dedicated to Final Fantasy which I've become a member of. ------------------------------ | What are augments? [?AUGM] | ------------------------------ Augments are a new ability system exclusive to the Nintendo DS version of the game. Augments are a variety of abilities that appear as key items in the inventory, and can be equipped by anyone when they are used on the character. They can be found in many ways, inheriting abilities from characters who leave your party, going through certain events in the game, and defeating certain monsters to name a few. They also offer stat bonuses, which take effect after level 70, which is the point that stats stop naturally increasing per level. This means that there is no random stat increases/decreases that were present in the previous versions of the game, making it much easier to get the stat bonuses desired, and maximum stats as well with the right setup. HP and MP are drastically affected by this levelling system, as HP gains beyond level 70 are negligible compared to the other versions of the game, where high HP was easily attained. -------------------------------------------------------- | Basic overview of the Augment ability system [BSCOV] | -------------------------------------------------------- Augments appear in the Key Items section of the inventory, distinct from other Key Items since they have a bag symbol representing that it is an augment. They cannot be removed once they are used on specific characters, so choose wisely on how you're planning your augment setups towards the end of the game and New Game + files. Augments carry over to New Game +, whether if they were used or not, and there is a limit of 3 playthroughs before starting a complete New Game file. Most of the augments received are automatically given to you, while some require questing and a bit of backtracking in order to receive them. -------------------------------------- | Augment Locations and uses [AUGLU] | -------------------------------------- All augments are listed in chronological order, from top to bottom. Answer: Go into the Abilities section of the menu, and select an ability in the Battle Commands section, and replace it with the the desired augment in the Known Abilities section below the battle command menu. Question: Why have you decided to put your second Limit Break to Kain? Answer: This is purely my choice, because I prefer to have another character who can deal really high damage, and Kain is the person who qualifies for this position. He can deal somewhere between ~80000-90000 damage by using this method: Have Kain with the following Battle Commands setup: Focus, Darkness, Adrenaline, Limit Break, and Jump in the Auto-Battle command. Kain enters battle in critical HP (2x damage with Adrenaline), then uses Focus 3 times (4.5x damage), then Darkness (2x damage), and then execute Auto-Battle to make Kain Jump (2x damage). That sums up to 10.5x the normal damage, which will deal a very high amount of damage (~80000-85000). Question: Why not give the Limit Break augment to someone else like Rydia or Edge? Answer: Edge is basically worthless for Limit Break, because the Knife item is a 1-time use, even though it has a base attack of 999. The Knife is not worth losing if you're going for a Perfect Game, but it may deal max damage when paired with Adrenaline. Other than that, he'll be doing upwards to ~18000 damage when throwing Fuma Shurikens with Adrenaline. Overall, I think it's not worth giving Limit Break to Edge because of the Knife being a 1-time use item, and his damage output after the Knife has been used. Rydia on the other hand has good potential with Limit Break. When she has Adrenaline, Fast Talker, Dualcast, and MP+50%, she can cast Meteor twice to deal a combined ~40000-45000 damage (~20000-23000 per Meteor spell), and overall it's faster than waiting for Kain to use Focus 3 times, Darkness, Jump, and then waiting for him to land (hopefully) on the desired enemy. The flaw is that each Meteor spell costs 99 MP, and her MP will not last long unless you have an abundance of Elixirs. This is why I didn't give Rydia Limit Break because of the MP problems that she will come across. Question: May I use this guide somewhere else? Answer: You may use this guide only for personal uses, not for commercial uses without my permission. You can ask for my permission by e-mailing me, or sending me a private message on FFTogether. My e-mail address is at the very last part of this guide. ------------------- | Credits [CREDS] | ------------------- Square-Enix and Matrix Software, for making Final Fantasy IV on the DS possible!
