Final Fantasy IV is the fourth installment in the Final Fantasy series. It was originally released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System dubbed as Final Fantasy II to avoid continuity issues. It was later released for the PlayStation, Wonderswan Color and Game Boy Advance. It was remade for the Nintendo DS with voice acting and full motion videos and cutscenes in early 2008. The game spawned a sequel, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years which was originally released only for Japanese mobile phones, but was later brought to the Wiiware for other regions.

The game follows Cecil, a Dark Knight of Baron who is beginning to question his king due to his interest in neighboring kingdoms crystals: taking them by brute force. He is stripped of his command of the Red Wings due to questioning his lord. Cecil then embarks on a journey joined with a changing group of allies as he tries to stop Golbez from taking control of crystals and destroying the world. The game introduced the Active Time Battle System where players must enter commands in real time as the battle goes on.
