Final Fantasy IX (ファイナルファンタジーIX ~ Fainaru Fantajī Nain) is the 9th main game in the Final Fantasy Series. Released in 2000; it became the last Final Fantasy game to appear on the PlayStation.

Final Fantasy IX started development alongside Final Fantasy VIII and was created with the intention to bring back the roots of the series. Not to conflict with the modern feeling of the two previous instalments it was originally intended to become a Spinn-Off, eventually it was decided to give Final Fantasy IX its roman numeral.

The story of Final Fantasy IX takes the player into the fantasy world Gaia. Here Queen Branhe of Alexandria has begun using highly-advanced magical weapons to start a war with neighbouring kingdoms. At the same time a group named Tantalus has entered Alexandria to kidnap Branhe's daughter Garnet, but when Tantalus tries it move not everything is going as planned.

As of April 2, 2010; Square Enix has announced a release of Final Fanatsy IX for the PlayStation Network.
