Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift is the sequel to the Gameboy Advance game; Final Fantasy Tactics Advance developed for the Nintendo DS. It was released in Japan on October 25, 2007 and was later released for other territories in late June. It is also a member of the Ivalice Alliance series.
The story follows a young boy named Luso Clemens, who is punished to cleaning up the library on the last day of school. While in the library, he stumbles upon a book and writes his name in it. As he wrote his name, he is whisked away to Ivalice and journeys with Clan Gully in order to find his way back home.

Gameplay
The Job System makes a return, with unique jobs for each particular race. Abilities are learned through weapons, armor and accessories. The Law System from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance makes a return, but is less punishing than it's predecessor. Before a battle, a Judge announces a law to go along with the mission you are given, and you will be able to choose a variety of privileges. If the law has been broken, the Judge will abandon the battle and you will not be able to revive fallen party members and your privilege will be negated. In main storyline quests, the game is over if all units have been K.Oed. In optional quests, the quest will be dubbed failed if all units have been K.Oed. Upholding the law, however, is crucial in some missions and most laws can be punishing to follow. The player will be able to undergo Clan Trials, in order to raise their clan stats and gives access to new privileges.
Characters
Main Characters
- Luso Clemens - The main male protagonist. He is a young, mischievous boy who is punished for his tardiness to class by cleaning up the school library. As a result, he later finds himself in the world of Ivalice and is the wielder of a mysterious book called the Grimoire of the Rift.
- Adelle - The main female protagonist, and is sometimes called Adelle the Cat. She is a thief, who later finds herself journeying with Luso and the rest of Clan Gully. She later learns that she's one of the Gifted, a special group of people with mysterious powers.
- Cid - Leader of Clan Gully, who is the first to meet Luso and invites him into the clan. He has a mysterious past, which he chooses to hide from others. He is shown to not get along well with Adelle.
- Hurdy - A traveling moogle bard and one of Montblanc's siblings. He later befriends Clan Gully after they find materials for his new instrument and wants to create a song for Luso.
Secret Playable Characters
- Frimelda Lotice - A famed blademaster who was once a legend of all of Jylland. She died of a mysterious illness and the party first meets her as a zombie. The party later learns more about her and wishes to help her out.
- Vaan - A sky pirate from the east. He first meets Luso when he is after an airship hijacker and later becomes his rival.
- Penelo - A sky pirate from the east, and a friend of Vaan. She is a Dancer and often scolds Vaan due to his recklessness.
- Montblanc - A black mage, who first meets Luso in the city of Flourgis after being encountered by two Bangass who accused Luso of stealing a magick medallion from them. After acquiring certain accessories that hold the power to summon Scions, the player will be able to recruit him. He is the sibling of Hurdy, although the two never meet in the game until you recruit him.
- Al-Cid Margrace - He first bumps into Luso at the Flugoris Aerodrome, and is asked to deliver a letter to the sky pirates Vaan and Penelo. He only has one job, that is exclusive to him; Agent.
