Final Fantasy VI (ファイナルファンタジーVI ~ Fainaru Fantajī VI), known as Final Fantasy III in North America when it was first released for the SNES. It was the third and last game in the main series to come out on the SNES. It has later been remade for both the Playstation and Game Boy Advance, this time brought out under its official roman numeral. The remakes where also the first time Final Fantasy VI reached the European countries.

Final Fantasy VI was again set in a fantasy world, but this time with a higher technology level, resembling the industrial revolution in the 18th and 19th century. Starting off with a female protagonist the players soon find them self helping out a resistance group who are trying to overthrown the imperial dictatorship. And with a total of fourteen characters available the party soon finds them self in a battle to save the world.

For the first time Hironobu Sakaguchi stepped down from his role as director and instead became the producer. His former role was split between Yoshinori Kitase and Hiroyuki Itō. While artist Yoshitaka Amano and composer Nobuo Uematsu returned to there posts for the sixth time on a row.
