Final Fantasy VII (ファイナルファンタジーVII) is the seventh installment in the Final Fantasy franchise. It was released in 1997 for the original PlayStation, re-released in 1998 for the PC and was made available on the PlayStation Network as of 2009. The game has sold more than 10 million copies and has garnered near universal acclaim. It has been considered to be, so far, one of the most popular games of the series. The game has also become it's own small series in a way, having a prequel, a sequel, and a movie. Final Fantasy VII is also the first game of the series to give a more futuristic feel, while many previous games had more medieval themes.
The game follows Cloud Strife, a mercenary who is trying to stop the Shinra Corporation from draining the life force of the Planet to use as a energy source. As the plot progresses, the story changes as Cloud and his allies try to stop Sephiroth.
Characters
Playable Characters
- Cloud Strife - A former SOLDIER who is now a mercenary and the main protagonist. Cloud attempts to leave his dark past behind him as he tries to discover who he truly is.
- Barret Wallace - Head of the resistance group AVALANCHE, trying to prevent Shinra from draining the life force of the Planet. Barret's hand was shot years before the prior of the main story, and has been replaced with a Gun-Arm. Which he uses as his main weapon.
- Tifa Lockhart - The female lead and Cloud's childhood friend as well as a member of AVALANCHE. She owns a bar named 7th Heaven, which AVALANCHE uses as a hideout.
- Aeris Gainsborough - A young, beautiful, kind and mysterious woman who can also be considered one of the female protagonists. She is a flower girl who has lived in the slums of Midgar. Though that has made her evade the corporation of Shinra many times.
- Red XIII - Real name being Nanaki, he is a lion-like beast who was rescued by Cloud and his allies during a swoop through Shinra HQ. He was given the name Red XIII by Professor Hojo, who used him as a experiment. He is considered to be 48 years old in human years, but by his species years he is considered to be the age of a teenager in human years.
- Cait Sith - Working as a fortune teller at Gold Saucer, he is a cat riding a huge toy moogle. In reality, he is a mere puppet controlled by Reeve who works for Shinra. Despite this, Cait Sith wants to save the planet.
- Cid Highwind - A character who is part of a recurring line of characters named Cid, and is the second Cid to become a playable character. He is a airship pilot who constantly swears and occasionally loses his temper. He is also a member of a long line of characters with the surname Highwind, his main class being similar to a Dragoon.
Secret Characters
- Vincent Valentine - A former Turk and one of the optional characters in the game. He is also the main character of Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus, a direct sequel to Final Fantasy VII.
- Yuffie Kisaragi - A ninja from the nation of Wutai. She is an optional character and is up to the player to recruit her or not.
