Final Fantasy X (ファイナルファンタジーX ~ Fainaru Fantajī Ten) is the tenth main game in the Final Fantasy Series. Released in 2001 it became the first Final Fantasy game to appear on a sixth-generation console. Final Fantasy X was the first Final Fantasy game to use voice-overs. This however limited the ability to name your own characters, excluding the main character Tidus who's name isn't spoken through the game.
The story of Final Fantasy X takes place in a world called Spira. In Spira a monster known as Sin is terrorising the land and the only way to stop him is by completing an ancient pilgrimage. Tidus, the main character of the game, finds himself in Spira after an encounter with Sin. Its then that he meets up with Yuna, a young summoner, who's about to begin here pilgrimage to destroy Sin.
Final Fantasy X became a huge success which eventually resulted in Final Fantasy X-2, the first playable sequel to a Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy X-2 was brought out in 2003 and followed the Yuna 2 years after the original game ended.
An HD remastering of the game was announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2011, and will be released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Gameplay
The new capabilities of the PS2 have had a direct impact on the gameplay of Final Fantasy X. So are the Pre-rendered background replaced by scaled 3D models and has the overall worldmap been removed to give the game a more realistic feeling. Despite the missing worldmap, Spira still knows a lot of different places: from the tropical Besaid to the ice cold plains of Macalania.
For the first time since the Active Time Battle (ATB) was introduced Square also decided to implement a new battle system, the Conditional Turn-Based Battle (CTB). The CTB allowed players to take the time to think through every next move, for the first time players could even switch there party members right on the battle field itself.
Sphere Grid
Final Fantasy X also introduced a new levelling system called the Sphere Grid. Instead of simply levelling up the normal way each "level up" granted one step on the Sphere Grid. While walking on the Grid players could use Sphere's to unlock Notes that granted the character with new abilities or stat upgrades, these Stats included: Strength, Defence, Magic, Magic Defence, Agility, Accuracy, Evasion, Luck, HP and MP.
Each character was placed on a different location on the same board. This meant that at the start of the game each character would grow according to its own particular "job", but as the game progressed you gained the ability choice the characters directions.
In both the International and European version an additional board was introduced. This Expert Sphere Grid was build up in a more freely way. With each characters started in the middle of the Grid and with no key sphere's blocking there paths, players could freely choice each character directly early in the game. The new board however had 45 notes fewer, which could have a considerable effect on inexpedience gamers trying to beat Penance (a new supper boss which was also introduced in the International and European version)

Unlike previous Final Fantasy theme songs Suteki da ne was also sung in Japanese in the english version of the game.
