The Wilderness of Pulse, with Vanille standing on a cliff
Gran Pulse (or Pulse) is one of the main settings in Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2 and the land below the floating continent of Cocoon. It was created and named after by the great god Pulse. Gran Pulse becomes accessible in Chapter 11, after escaping the Fifth Ark. Gran Pulse features a more open world compared to Cocoon, as all areas are free to explore and revisit. Gran Pulse's inhabitants seem to have disappeared, and the land is overrun by powerful monsters such as the towering Adamantoises; and only the Pulse fal'Cie still appear to inhabit the untamed land. Citizens of Cocoon believe that Pulse is a living hell for them and live in constant fear of a Pulse invasion.

Gran Pulse is also the homeland of characters Oerba Dia Vanille and Oerba Yun Fang.

The Pulse fal'Cie

In-Game Datalog

The savage world derives its name from that of the god Pulse. Its vast wilderness is populated by creatures ranging from the monstrous to the deadly, and its fal'Cie seem to have taken a decidedly less friendly approach toward human dealings than those of Cocoon, cultivating the land for settlement, but demonstrating little concern beyond that.At one time in its history, Gran Pulse was home to a thriving civilization and many great cities. Now it is home to many great ruins, and people are nowhere to be seen.
