Hanging Edge

Hanging Edge is a location on Cocoon in Final Fantasy XIII and where the game begins. It is located on the outer rim of Cocoon connected by a series of highroads. It has become a restriction zone since the War of Transgressions, Hanging Edge was once a metropolis before the war. Lightning and Sazh enter this area by train along with Purge Deportees to reach the Pulse Vestige. Meanwhile, Team NORA are fighting against PSICOM to keep the civilians safe.

After Chapter 1, Hanging Edge is inaccessible and in Chapter 2; becomes destroyed after the battle with the fal'Cie Anima and sinks down to Lake Bresha. As a result, the fal'Cie completely crystallizes the lake.

In-Game Datalog

A relic of days before the War of Transgression, the Hanging Edge is located near Cocoon's outer rim. The area was once a thriving urban center, but residents were forced to abandon the location when an attack by Pulsian forces cracked Cocoon's shell during the conflict several centuries ago. It was since designated a restricted zone and, with civilian access prohibited, soon became nothing more than a name on local maps.
