Matamune

Matamune, a Key Item in Final Fantasy XII, is a fishing rod that is needed to complete the fishing side-quest. It can be gained after defeating the hunt monster Gilgamesh and meeting him again in Barheim Passage.

Overview

In the inventory it is described as:

"A cursed fishing rod that drinks the lifeblood of the fish it hooks. You obtained it from Gilgamesh, ancient man of mystery."

It will be used in the fishing side-quest to obtain the Cactoid Compact, which leads to the completion of the quest and earning the Lu Shang's Badge.

Location

This item can be found in the small area south of The Zeviah Span in Barheim Passage, the part that is only accessible from the West Annex. If Gilgamesh is already defeated, he will arrive and a small cutscene will trigger and give you the Matamune.
