computer help please....

ONI will be shaking his head at me ......

I remembered I had an old flicker account ....so went into it to try and upload my pics

everytime I press upload , I then get into my documents ...I can click on a pic , but then when I press review to check it is the right pic I get a message to say it has crashed.

every time

on the side there is a free download to make it easier and I maybe thought it was an update seen as I hadn't been on the site for a couple of years..

so I clicked on to download it ..its a flash adobe thing

well as soon as I get going I get this warning saying do I want to continue because of potential threats and my anti virus will be closed off for a minute ..and this can happen and that can happen ..

so now I daren't do it ....

can one of you put my mind at rest please

everything on my screen is getting blurred ..like a black trail next to it ..

what does this mean please ?

If it really is an adobe flash update then you should be safe for the few seconds those take to install, just be absolutely sure first.

If the screen's blurred, it might just be broken, I'm afraid :/ otherwise it's probably something in the settings for the screen itself rather than the computer.

what I think I will do is try again , then come back and tell you exactly what it says ...I am not good with this stuff at all ...

I wondered myself if the monitor was on its way out , I have another one so no worries on that score ...

Sorry Les but I don't know how I haven't seen this or else I'd have answered earlier.

For the blurring it can be different things:

- Monitor Settings messed up: in that case there should be a reset/refresh button somewhere to try and fix it.
- Video Card: try to update your Video Card Driver
- Ghost Signal: but I doubt it...

As for the Flickr issue:

I never used Flickr before but this coulld be caused by so many things conflicting together..

The first thing that comes to mind could be your Browser.... IE?.
I don't know what Browser are you using Les but my general advice is to use Firefox and forget the existence of IE.
This might fix the issue right away or maybe not but most of the time it's always Browser related.
As for the Upload Manager (guess that's what you mean) you can live with that since you can perfectly upload without those programs that most of the time just tries to install other 3rd party programs/set internet preferences into your PC.

If you could give me some more information I'd be grateful.

thank you oni ..I haven't had chance to go back on ...but I will

I have had a twiddle on the buttons on the monitor and I changed it to French and the colour green 
so now the trails are a dull green ...but I am back to English 

ahh now

I just read your post again ..I saw a reset button and thought it meant reset the whole computer and I would lose everything 

omg ....how can I not know this stuff

right I will try that ..oh its so complicated

I think I have sussed it ..if I just upload the pic without viewing it first then it will upload..

so please tell me if you can see my album..well there is only a couple of pics , thought I would check before I add loads 

if this works then I dont have to worry about the ad flash thing

I found a pc on amazon ...it is onlt £83 so it is concernign me why it is so cheap ..it is a reconditioned one..

not sure about the first thing
but 40GB is on the small side, if you intend to save anything like digital copies of DVDs, or even getting them off iTunes that'll fill up really fast. my hard drive on my laptop has 452, and have used almost 2/3 of that, but I have a lot of stuff on it. If you really only use it casually I suppose that would be enough, though I've never used one casually so I couldn't say for sure.
1GB RAM is ok, it could be better, but could also be worse.
DVD/CD is good
XP is the last Windows, 7 would be better, but at least it's not Vista

It's the memory with me I think , I don't download music or movies , I wouldn't have a clue, I
don't have msn anymore or facebook , but it's my photo's ...I take hundreds , on a daily basis
I can take 200 easy ...I download software to work on my pics and then mess around on my album in flicker..

so does that overall account of cyber space for me give you any idea of what size memory I should be
looking for ..I would rather pay what it is to have a decent memory and a good speed than getting it
cheaper but a bad performance .

Wouldn't really say that memory isn't really that much of an issue these days. I guess you can easily buy an 1TB Hard Disc (external or internal) for less than a £100. On which you can store quite a lot of pictures, and with lot I mean a lot

For your interest 120GB is somewhat the minimum memory space these days, didn't even knew they sold pc's with less than that.

I would look out with Windows XP though. Microsoft officially dropped support for Windows XP and the entire computer industry has followed Microsoft's lead. A safe bet would be going for an Windows 7 pc, but then your already looking into pc's which are around the £200,- more expensive duo to the licence cost alone.

processor looks fine, dont assume you use your pc for anything crazy.
You might want to pick up a 2nd 1gb ram.
The harddrive is kinda row for today's standards. As Bram said, i suggest a larger Harddrive, like 250GB+
Also Win7 is a huge suggestion, as bram said. Microsoft dropped winXP support, so its the best option
